Hudson is a solid pitcher, and he had a pretty good outing in game 3 despite the loss. He gave up just 4 hits in 5 2/3 innings. I'd much rather have him start than putting in Bumgarner on such short rest. Without a doubt if Hudson falters within the first 3-4 innings, we will see Bumgarner.

This is Bochy's fault for not starting Bumgarner in Game 4. It was a terrible decision, likely driven by the team wanting to protect its most valuable asset. They have Bumgarner locked into a horrible contract.

I'd expect more along the lines of a Randy Johnson 2002 scenario. They might pitch him 1 or 2 innings in relief later in the game if it's close. Anything more is pushing your luck after throwing 117 pitches 3 days ago.

It's hard to second guess Bochy, guys just made the right moves past few years, and he's the best coach in the league, I believe in him...

I feel a little bad for current manager Rick Renteria but Maddon has done great with limited resources. With the Cubs prospects that should be in the majors next year and the belief that they'll spend some money on major free agents the Cubs could be contending for a division title by 2016.

Why is everybody so obsessed with Bumgarner possibly pitching? Is there a good scenario where he comes in? You're not going to bring him in with runners on base, but it likely means he's in relatively early which means Hudson got beat up.

I agree it's been blown way out of proportion... I'd rather get 7 or 8 strong from Hudson
