The only viable way I can see this deal working out for them is if they get top notch pitching for the outfielders they're gonna trade. I can definitely see an even Cespedes/Hamels trade but until then Hanley better invest in some shin guards.

Headley. Although I think they're better off leaving 3B to Prado and looking into a 2B guy. Not sure if Pirela or Reffsnyder will be ready to take on the position yet.

No idea who they're gonna get for our rotation.

We've spent a ton on international players for the farm system. I really want Yoan Moncada and Tomas (but I'd be happy with Moncada).

The rotation I'm not so worried about. On one hand I'd love to pair Scherzer with Tanaka, but that salary . The lineup on the other hand. SS is a black hole right now. Can never replace the Captain, but we have to try.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Blue Jays will acquire Josh Donaldson from the Athletics for Brett Lawrie, Sean Nolin, Kendall Graveman and Franklin Barreto.

It's unclear at the moment if there are any other players involved or money changing hands in the deal. The 28-year-old Donaldson was the core of the Athletics offense and was under team control through the 2018 season, coming off of a .255/.342/.456 slash line with 29 homers and 98 RBI in 2014.

Seattle lands Cruz

According to Jancen Pujols of Dominican newspaper El Caribe, the Mariners have signed free agent slugger Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $57 million contract.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has confirmed the report. The M's were in on Cruz last winter before he signed with the Orioles and now they've opened their purse strings in a major way to finally land the slugger. Cruz was a monster this past season in Baltimore, batting .271/.333/.525 with 40 home runs and 108 RBI in 159 games. The 34-year-old will take over as Seattle's primary designated hitter, and he'll presumably bat cleanup behind Robinson Cano. It's a much-needed offensive upgrade.

The only way Atlanta or San Fran gets Lester is if he takes less money. With the number of suitors it's likely the Cubs or Red Sox will end up offering $150 million over 6 years, and I can't see the Braves or Giants matching that. Lester has talked about wanting to go someplace his family wants to live, so it's not out of the question he could give a discount to Atlanta, where he lives in the offseason, or San Francisco, where his friend and fellow Atlanta resident Tim Hudson is trying to sell him on.

It better be a big discount if it's Atlanta. I certainly wouldn't pay a pitcher who'll be 31 by opening day a 6 year $150 million deal.

There's no such thing as a good multi year contract anymore. -

I saw that the Yankees were finalists for Lester but it's hard to imagine any way that they'll land him for a deal that's actually worth it.
