Jake Arrieta has been unstoppable lately. The Cubs have only lost one of his starts since the beginning of July and he's had 13 consecutive quality starts. In 5 of his 6 starts this month he hasn't given up an earned run.

It's going to be interesting to see if the Cubs sign Arrieta to a long-term deal this offseason. Arrieta is a Scott Boras client and Boras clients usually play out their contracts and hit the open market but Arrieta could be an exception. Arrieta didn't make it to MLB until he was 24 and has 2 more years of arbitration so he won't hit free agency until he's 32. This is the first season where he's made over $1 million and his career earnings are only about $5.5 million so he's not as financially secure or young as a lot of Boras clients. He could decide it's worth signing a long-term this offseason and being set for life rather than playing 2 more years and risking an injury.

Cubs are just deadly right now, along with the Astros, Blue Jays and Mets! It's going to be nice seeing all these new teams in the playoffs this year

I can already what the ALCS/NLCS match ups are going to be:

Blue Jays/Royals ALCS

Cardinals/Mets NLCS

World Series will be Cardinals/Royals with the Cards winning it in 7.

As far as U.S. goes, we'll be lucky to get a wild card because as far as I'm concerned, the AL east race is over and the Blue Jays have it locked up (as much as it disgusts me to say, but we've been mailing it in lately and with the Jays averaging 10 runs a game, we're done).

Can't wait for the Cubs California trip to end. I can't stay up very long for these games when they don't start until 9:15. Fortunately today is an afternoon game so I'll at least get to listen to it.
