I'd rather the Yanks just sweat it out in the wild card game than make a run in this last week and a half, tie the Blue Jays and then have to play them for the division. Chances are they're losing that game and then they'll have to play a second game for the wild card. That will mess up their entire rotation for round 1, should they get there.

Yanks had their opportunities. There are some guys on this team that they really need to get rid of. I'm not an Ellsbury fan and would love to see him go because he just always gets hurt but I know they're stuck with his contract. Gardner is a mediocre player who usually has one hot streak where you can't get him out and then he tanks. Yanks should get rid of him. Then Tex and Arod...can't really count on them any season going forward because of age and health.

Who's to say that we'll tie them? Even if we do, the head to head will be the tie breaker (which is why a team plays 19 games against each team in the division).

As crazy as it might sound, the Nathan Evoldi injury could be our undoing (if Evoldi was still pitching, Warren would still be the 6th/7th inning guy) for the simple fact that it's messed up our bullpen.

Offensively, Gardner, A-Rod and Headley have disappeared recently. If we lose the WC play in game, there should be change manager wise.

Well, we're only 3GB and 3 on the loss column. Not insurmountable odds, but we could use a little bit of help (as long as we take care of business).

I don't think so. I thought that in this new format, if two teams in the same division are tied for first place, they play a tie breaker game and the loser then goes on to play in the wildcard game.

Now you're just reading my mind. I think Girardi made a huge mistake putting Warren back into the rotation. Warren is not a starting pitcher. He's just not economical enough with his pitches, which is what the first half of the season taught us. I know Tanaka got hurt but I would have inserted another young starting pitcher into the rotation and left Warren where he was. Girardi also destroyed Betances. You can't pitch someone in 50% of the games over the course of the season and not have that bite you at the end, especially when he has to throw so many pitches per appearance.

Looks like Headley is starting to come out of it but I find it very hard to believe that he won a gold glove with the Padres. He is shaky at best with his throws to first. Reminds me of the problems that Knoblauch had at 2nd when he was on the Yanks.

That is correct.

What's the point of playing a odd # of games against each team in your division then? MLB just makes rules just for the sake of making changes which falls under of doing too much.

Because your record against your opponent is used to determine home field for that game. So the Blue Jays would get home field over the Yanks if they were to tie.

Again, it's stupid. The last thing they need is a play in game to determine a play in game. Again, it's doing too much when it's not necessary. If we tie the Jays, they would get the tie breaker and win the division.

Anyway, there won't be a tie. Either they win it, or we will.

I don't think it's fair to just hand a team the division because they won the head to head matchup because the team that doesn't win has to play a do or die one game playoff. It worked before they added the second wild card because the other team got into the divisional round of the playoffs. They just didn't have home field.

Want to know how to avoid it? WIN THE DIVISION!!!

Part of the reason they added the 2nd wild card because in 2010 Girardi mailed in it on the division and settled for the wild card.

You've got it. Looks like we are playing Russian roulette on our season against Keuchel and the Astros or maybe the Angels?

If we face the Angels, I like our chances. If it's the Twins (I highly doubt they'll get in), those guys fold like origami when they see that white with navy pinstripe uni with the interlocking NY on it. If it's the Astros, I would have some concern. With that said, they are not a good road team (even though they would probably send Kiekel against us).
