But seriously, I used to get crap at work from a Cardinals friend, and he passed from cancer last November. And now my Giants pesterer is gone too :'(

This year's free agent class is so loaded with outfielders that it seems like outside of Jason Heyward nobody is going to get near what they were expecting. Most people thought Gordon was going to get a 5-year deal worth somewhere in the $100 million range, but the market wasn't there. Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes, and Chris Davis (can play either corner outfield spot in addition to infield) are still available but there's not many teams left that are looking to make huge signings. It seems like Colby Rasmus made a smart play by accepting the Astros qualifying offer and delaying his free agency to next year when the free agent class is extremely weak.

Good that Piazza is finally in. Him and Chipper Jones were my favourite players growing up.

Raines will get in. It's not like he is losing to lame competition.

The whole had strong competition argument is pretty weak considering up to 10 candidates can be voted into the hall in any given year.

I was very surprised Ken Griffey Jr. was the first #1 overall pick to make the Hall of Fame. In fact, only one prior #1 pick, Harold Baines, stayed on the ballot for more than 1 year. Griffey won't be the only #1 pick in the HOF for long, as Chipper Jones should be joining him when he becomes eligible in 2018.

Among active #1 picks Adrian Gonzalez has had a very good career but not HOF worthy, and Joe Mauer looked like he could be on his way early in his career but his drop-off largely due to injuries has been significant. David Price has a good shot as long as he stays healthy and productive. Of course Alex Rodriguez would be a slam dunk pick based strictly on what he did on the field, but unless the voters mindset towards steroid users changes significantly he's got no real chance. Bryce Harper looks like he's on his way to the HOF, but who knows if he'll stay healthy and/or productive.

Yeah they can be but they aren't. How many classes have more than 3. Like I said the competition was too strong. Baseball HOF is the hardest to get into and Raines wasn't getting in this year. Next year is his best chance because there is no clear cut 1-2 candidates.
