Former Cardinals Scouting Director Will Serve Time For Illegally Accessing Astros' Database

Chris Correa, the former St. Louis Cardinals scouting director who illegally accessed the Houston Astros database known as Ground Control, was sentenced to 46 months in prison today in Houston federal court.

Correa, who was fired by the Cardinals in July 2015, pleaded guilty in January to five counts of unauthorized access of a computer. According to prosecutors, Correa used an old password of a former Cardinals employee, who took a job with the Astros, to log into Ground Control and download the Astros’ scouting reports, information on possible MLB draftees, and other notes.

Correa has also been assessed a fine of $279,038. Prosecutors valued the damage done to the Astros from his actions at $1.7 million.

Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale will not take the mound Saturday for his scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers.

The White Sox released a statement on Twitter before the game against their division rivals, noting he was “sent home” because of a “clubhouse incident” that "is under further investigation."

Tommy Stokke of FanRag Sports cited a source who said the "blowup was because he didn't want to wear throwbacks, so he cut the jerseys up so no one could wear them." Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports confirmed the report, while Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports quoted a source who said, "Sale asked that they not wear (throwbacks) on his day because they are uncomfortable. Things escalated when they wouldn't relent."

The Chicago White Sox have announced a five day suspension for ace pitcher Chris Sale. The suspension began Saturday and lasts through Wednesday. It follows a clubhouse incident that occurred before Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers.

In an official statement, Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager said, "Chris has been suspended for violating team rules, for insubordination and for destroying team equipment... while we all appreciate Chris' talent and passion, there is a correct way and an incorrect way to express concerns about team rules and organizational expectations."

Sale has also been fined an undisclosed amount and put on the MLB's suspended list.

Word out of Chicago is that's not going to help him get traded and I'm not surprised. Dude clearly blew up over something minor, teams aren't going to rush to the phone for those kinds of issues.

I don't think this hurt him... But it didn't help either. White Sox were already looking to move him. If anything, teams may drop what they're offering because they believe Chicago just wants him gone now...and they may be smarter than that.

It's not desperate it's a move they needed to make for the only part of the team that is shaky and they gave up minor leaguers that may never see the majors. The Cubs still have a very deep minor league system that they could afford to do this. There was nothing desperate about this.
