He was a passenger on the boat. One of his friends was in control of it. How many people do you think actually wear life vests on boats? 99% of the time you ain't wearing one unless you know you're going down.

The freaky part is officials say all 3 men were very familiar with these waters and it's not apparent how they didn't avoid the jetty. They more than likely died on impact.

I can't imagine how his family is doing..

The initial story I read said Fernandez owned the boat and was driving it. Now the news is saying it wasn't his and he was a passenger. Whoever was driving a boat very late at night at full speed was doing so irresponsibly. A huge jetty doesn't just pop up out of nowhere.

The jetty didn't have any lights or beacons on it. It would have been extremely hard to see given the time of night.

The only indication of that jetty being close would have been a no wake zone and it doesn't appear they were in it.

Well I'm aware of that, which is why you don't go hot roding around in a boat at top speed at that time of the night.

They're young, cocky males. It doesn't surprise me that speed was the main factor to this.

But most rock formations are very well lit. It's not uncommon for speedboats to be racing around Miami waters like this. The city should learn from this and build light structures. That jetty didn't seem very small I have no idea why it wasn't already marked..

Wow, really tragic news to read. So young, about to become a father, seeing him through the years coming up as a pitcher in the Marlins. This is just really sad to read, especially at 24 years old. I feel so sorry for his family and friends, but also his Mom and Grandmother that were there in so many games. All he went through with his Mom to make it to the U.S. I can't imagine how heartbroken they are today. Really sad news.

Indians playoff tickets went on sale today. I may have to order some off of StubHub if the price drops enough for my liking. Would love to experience playoff atmosphere.

I actually have a contract in the Indians ticket office, though I'm not sure how much help that would be.

I'm mixed on it. He was so dominant and so good.... and he was taken away so early. His entire story also has a lot of meaning in Miami, so it's a bit of a nod to the community as well.

It's not like they retired his number throughout baseball. I'm ok with it. Very unique story and relationship with the Marlins franchise.

He had Hall of Fame talent, and was taken so soon. He was the face of the franchise. A Cuban-American superstar in Miami. It makes a lot of sense to me.
