Yeah, the ump made a bit of a delayed call there. I think he was trying to add some drama.

Down goes Utley. What I still don't understand in baseball is; why is it that you have to appeal to a 1st/3rd base umpire when a batter swings through past 90 degrees? Why don't THEY signal to the home plate umpire automatically if the batter swung through all the way?

Yeah, I always thought it was a funny rule. If the catcher doesn't appeal, but the batter swung, then how can the umpire feel fine letting the game continue, knowing the batter should actually be out?
