Same thing happened in 2015 when the top 3 teams in MLB all came from the same division. That year the Cardinals won 100 games, the Pirates won 98 games, and the Cubs won 97 games. No other team in the majors won more than 95, but the Cubs and Pirates had to play each other in the Wild Card.

I get the seeding/format, but at the same time it sucked how that went down. |

As far as the wild card goes, I'm fine with the way it is where if you don't win the division, you have to play the wild card game. That keeps things interesting and puts a premium on winning the division. However, the change that I would make is that after you survive the wild card game, the teams should be re-seeded. That means if the wild card team has the second best record, they should play the 3rd seed in the LDS and have home field against them and anyone else they play throughout the playoffs that they have a better regular season record against. I think having to play that one game do or die playoff is enough of a penalty for not winning the division. |

You guys have the better team right now...no question about it. Even with the injuries the Yanks have had to some of their star players, I think the Red Sox are still better. You just need to validate the season in the playoffs.

Another embarassing loss for the LAD yesterday.
The last 4 series of LAD: took 3 out of 4 from the Dbacks, 2-3 from the Rox but lost series against the Mets and the Reds (0-6 for the season against the Reds ![]() This has been one frustrating season ![]() |

Awful loss by the Yanks last night as they continue to prove that their record is not a true indicator of the kind of team they are. They have played mediocre baseball for much of this season, with a 6 week hot stretch that ended about 3 months ago. People keep saying that you can't get on the Yankees because the Red Sox are having an historically good season. I can agree with that because Boston is head and shoulders above everyone this season and in a class by themselves. However, losing the #1 wild card spot is unacceptable given their schedule. They're losing to teams who have nothing to play for and don't have a fraction of the talent the Yanks have. I generally don't get on managers because I'm not one of those people who's out for blood when a team doesn't win...but it's hard for me to believe that this team would be in this kind of a malaise for this long if Girardi was the manager. Boone's inexperience is starting to show.

David Wright, who hasn't played a big league game since May 2016 due to injuries and surgeries piling up, is going to be activated for the Mets' final homestand of the season, start one game and retire. He's still owed $27 million for the next two seasons, so maybe he'll "retire" the same way Prince Fielder did so he can collect his full salary. A straight up retirement (like what Gil Meche did) forfeits the rest of the money.

LAD NL West Champ'
Kinda of a rollcoaster of a season. On May 20th, they were 19-26 and I wrote: "They still outscored opponent so they will get back on track, but I see them finish at around 86 wins... Might not be enough for a WC...". They are NL-best 73-45 after that. Still worried about Jansen though... Last edited by ex-beldvd man; 10-02-2018 at 08:37 AM. Reason: Add a sentence at the end... |

Love how they suddenly went 7-3 in their last 10 games after they were well out of it for no reason. |
