The Dodgers reportedly have agreed to a contract extension with Clayton Kershaw. The deal is reportedly for 3 years and $93 million, plus incentives. Kershaw had 2 years and $65 million remaining on his old deal that he could have opted-out of, so the Dodgers only added an extra year to his deal and his average salary dropped from $32.5 million to $31 million, although it's unknown what the incentives are and how easily they can be reached.

The Hall of Fame's Today's Game Era committee has nominated ten names to be considered for the Hall of Fame -- George Steinbrenner, Lou Piniella, Davey Johnson, Charlie Manuel, Lee Smith, Harold Baines, Albert Belle, Will Clark, Orel Hershiser and Joe Carter. At least 12 of the 16-member committee has to vote yes for them to be elected.

Quote:
Joe Mauer officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Friday after 15 seasons.

Mauer indicated that the decision came down to his health and his family, explaining that the risk of another concussion was too great and that his desire to play was outweighed by the possibility of another injury. The first overall selection from the 2001 draft, Mauer spent all 15 seasons of his big league career with his hometown Twins. A six-time All-Star, Mauer slashed .306/.388/.439 with 143 home runs for his career. He also captured the American League MVP Award in 2009, where he hit a ridiculous .365/.444/.587 with 28 homers and 96 RBI. He was the recipient of three Gold Glove awards behind the plate and tacked on five Silver Sluggers as well.

Despite personally sharing his last name, i really think that Verlander should have won the AL cy young.

No doubt Snell's numbers are excellent but I just can't get past the part where he averaged less than six innings per start.

Adrian Beltre retires. Had no idea he had been in the league 21 years, but he played half a season at the age of 19.

I suppose he'll make the Hall someday. I know his numbers say he is and that is probably all that matters but I never view as a Hall of Fame player. Just very good.

I disagree. If it was just based on offense then sure, I could see the argument. However, he also has a historically great 29.3 dwar (10th all time among all position players). When you add everything up he should be an easy lock.

I see what you are saying. He just never screamed to me 'Hall of Famer' while playing. I just never thought of him as that until late in his career and then I started seeing his numbers next to other 3rd baseman and he is easily a top 10 3B of all time. Schmidt, Brett, and Eddie Mathews are obviously better but he is probably in there with Chipper Jones, Paul Molitor, Wade Boggs, Brooks Robinson.

Diamondbacks trade Paul Goldschmidt to Cardinals for right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly, infielder Andrew Young and a 2019 Competitive Balance Round B Draft pick.

The Today's Game Era Committee -- a 16-member Hall of Fame Board-appointed electorate -- voted Harold Baines and Lee Smith into the Hall of Fame.

First Morris and now Baines. The Veterans committee should be the ones being drug tested.

All the players who got voted into the HOF via secondary committees in the last couple years are great players, but I don't think they're that great. Of course, Jim Rice got voted in via the traditional method and I don't think he's a hall of famer either. But he's in there, so that opens the doors for a lot of other players.

Do you think this flurry of wheeling and dealing is more conducive to them trading either Kluber or Bauer or less? I still think one of them is going to get dealt if some team offers them a king's ransom.

I just don't understand why 1) we'd be trading away our star players, and 2) why do the Dolans suck?

What really irks me is that our front office has been a veritable farm system for other front offices in terms of GM/scouting talent. Look all over MLB and see how many current and former GMs have come up through the Indians organization.

Could you imagine what these guys could accomplish if they had even a mid-level (like, say, St. Louis Cardinals) payroll?

Mets sign catcher Wilson Ramos to two-year contract, meaning they're no longer interested in trading for J.T. Realmuto.
