I'd say off the field stuff in general. The fact that he scammed a state out of a huge sum of money with a failed video game company also hurt his reputation.

Wow 300 million over 10 years for Machado and the Padres, a terrible contract imo.

Great news for American league second basemen though not having to worry about this guy taking out their knees when he hits a double all season long!

As a Sox fan, kinda sucks to see them doing their due diligence all free agency for the Padres to sneak up and offer that 10 year deal. But then, the more I think about it..10 years seemed a bit much. I was happy with their 8 year offer. Oh well...Arenado??

Pretty sure Jon Heyman was the first to say the Padres were still in on Harper and Heyman is well known for being Scott Boras' stooge in the media who will report whatever Boras wants him to. People know that you can't take Heyman's reports seriously when Boras clients are involved. There's zero chance the Padres are still interested in Harper, but Boras wants to make it seem like there's more of a market for Harper so he has his mouthpiece report it.

I've got to think Harper signs in the next couple days. Everything points to him ending up in Philadelphia but that's the way it's looked for months and still nothing is done. I know the Cubs owner has said they can't afford Harper but I wonder if they're playing coy and are talking about a deal behind the scenes. The Cardinals are another team I could see being in play as well.

I think we know how this goes. Machado bats .240 with 25 HR next season, the Padres improve little on the field, still draw <30,000 a game and within 4 years Machado gets shipped off somewhere with San Diego eating most of the contract.

These kind of 7+ year mega deals almost never work out for the team. Just check out the past mega deals. Even those that kind of work out for the team are only in the short term, becoming dead weight deals by years 4 or 5.

Baseball scheduling as a whole is dumb. There is NO reason why a team cannot play all other teams.

Yeah, it makes no sense for certain teams to start the season at home. All of the cold weather outdoor teams should start on the road for the first couple series. Opening day in Minnesota is either going to be extremely cold, which will be miserable for the players and fans, or get snowed out, which just causes headaches for the players when they have to make the series up during the summer when they have scheduled days off.

Bryce Harper is signing with the Phillies per Scott Boras' media mouthpiece Jon Heyman.

Edit: 13 years, $330 million, no opt-outs. That's the biggest guaranteed contract in MLB history but his $25.38 million average would only be good for 15th in 2019 earnings.

Anyone remember the days when baseball started in mid april and the season ended mid to late sept, and you could go to a game for 15 dollars and if you were lucky it was a scheduled doubleheader... you know back in the day when baseball cared about it fans... none of this day night double header crap a double header was a double header no scott boras no 300 million dollar contracts

Well next is the Trout extension with the Angels. He’s not leaving the Angels. By the time he will be a free agent the Angels are gonna be stacked with young studs like Jo Adell coming up from the farm. There’s no reason to leave.
