Tom Seaver has been diagnosed with dementia and will retire from public life.

And with Ausmus, yeah not super thrilled with him being the next manager but maybe he’s learned some things from his Detroit days on what to do different.

By 2020 the Angels will be just as good if not better then the Phillies. We have a lot of big prospects coming up. A Trout, Ohtani , Adell combo sounds better then a Trout, Harper, Hoskins combo honestly. Harper is so overrated.
Harper is overrated as a hitter and fielder, no doubt. However, he brings major money to the franchise and homeruns.

I disagree about the Angels mainly because of pitching, but also for some other reasons...

Ohtani is a question mark. Love the guy, but it remains to be seen how he responds to the surgery and if he will return to form next year when he pitches again.

Pujols is still wasting precious cap space and is holding the Angels back from a true run at the Pennant.

Upton is aging. 32 years old and is seeing a drop off each year (as is usually projected). He has a 3 or 4 year deal still.

Calhoun isn't impressive. Bour at 1B is just a stop-gap. Simmons is good, but he will command top dollar as well when he is up for free agency. Lucroy, Cozart, and Fletcher don't invoke fear into opposing pitching.

As I said before...pitching. Heaney isn't the answer. Skaggs isn't very good. Matt Harvey will disappoint. Barria is young and will hopefully just get better. Rounding out the starting 5 is Cahill or Pena.

Again when you compare the Angels to the other AL teams, it just doesn't look promising. I like optimism, but I don't see a path to the Angels having enough to convince Trout to stay. Add in the stadium drama and there are a lot of reasons (in addition to $$$ to leave for one's preferred destination).

Edit: and yes, I am not impressed with Ausmus. I am glad Mike is gone (he ran his course), but of all the candidates out there, Ausmus? Meh.

We have a good crop of guys almost ML ready. Griffin Canning could be the answer and I believe Ohtani will be fine coming off Tommy John. Track record is good for pitchers coming off that surgery and a lot get even better.

And we have a potential Trout 2.0 coming up by the name of Adell. That will be a better outfield combo over Trout Harper.

Like I said the Phillies have question marks too. They aren’t the Yankees or Astro’s. I don’t think he’s leaving.

Yes! But, man they are loaded and they are willing to spend. Plus, they are always attractive to free agents and late season trade candidates.

I'd love the Angels to succeed and for Trout to stay, but my biggest fear with that situation is that he leaves and Arte gets nothing in return.

It’s baseball anything can happen. Who saw the A’s winning 97 games last year?

I think the Angels have a legit spot for a WC spot. They can easily be better then the Twins, Rays or A’s if they can stay healthy.

didnt see the new rules mentioned. most seem fine but this one i dont agree with. why mess with the game? this will change strategy and i dont see the reason for it at all really....

Minimum Number of Batters for Pitchers: The Office of the Commissioner will implement an amended Official Baseball Rule 5.10(g) requiring that starting pitchers and relief pitchers must pitch to either a minimum of three batters or the end of a half-inning (with exceptions for incapacitating injury or illness). The Players Association has agreed that it will not grieve or otherwise challenge the Office of the Commissioner's implementation of the amended Rule 5.10(g).

Track record proves different. But we will see. He could rock or be mediocre. It’s all up to his mindset.

Will they get 2015 Harper or 2016/2018 Harper.

Lots of cash for a guy that has essentially done nothing in the league of note other then compile stats and bank account figures. Heck I don't think he has even won a single playoff game in his career yet.

Yeah, all he's done is be by far the best player in the league for essentially his entire career. You can't blame the guy accumulating 10 war per season for the team missing the playoffs. Your argument is as misguided as those saying that A-Rod was a bust in Texas.

What part of my post is incorrect other then nothing? At this level you are judged by how much you win and if you can elevate your team. He has done none of these things yet, I really don't care what his war stats are as if he cant get his team to a spot where they can win, then he has failed to do his job imo!

And when you consume that kind of chunk of payroll, sorry it is partially his fault like it or not!

How's this he is the best MLB player in the game today that has never won a single playoff game.
