I think the Red Sox are starting to awaken from their winter slumber. Trouncing & sweeping the mariners 3 game series to get over .500 for the first time this year.

Someone call the bomb squad. Twins hit 8 HRs in 16-7 rout of the Angels. That's good wood.

Looks like someone is challenging the MLB draft way of doing things and betting on himself for the future.

Last year pitcher Carter Stewart was picked 8th by the Braves but was offered less than half of the slot value signing bonus because they believed he was injured. So he passed. Now he's going to Japan on a 6-year, $7 million deal, which means if he's successful, he'll be a 25-year-old "international" free agent via the posting system.

Chances are he'll fail since the vast majority of aspiring baseball players fail. He could get hurt, he might not develop, he could just end up sucking from the first pitch, playing overseas in a foreign country might get to him. But if this works out for him, that could change the way many players do things.

I have the baseball package and have watched a good amount of the Twins. They look for real and I'm not sure that there's another team in that division that will be able to take them down. The Indians have struggled a lot to this point.

I heard a talk radio host mention the Padres have been over .500 for 55 games this season.... and over .500 for 45 games in the last eight seasons combined.

They've got a lot of young talent. Plenty more players on the way in the farm system too. Should have a decent stretch of years where they will be competitive.

Official attendance at the Trop last night....5,786. Wow.

C'mon Stu. Find a way to move the Rays to Tampa where they belong.

Yeah me neither. It's a daunting drive from Tampa in rush hour traffic for a 7:00 pm game going across the bridges. More than 75% of the Rays fanbase is an hour or more away. The avg attendance at the Trop is 14,000. In Tampa I'm sure it would be 20k or more.

Tampa rush hour traffic a daunting drive lol, try going through Boston or NYC or worse a west coast city like L.A. or San Fran. Fact of the matter is Florida is a terrible state for pro sports teams and Tampa in particular, even with a state of the art brand new open air facility downtown Tampa and a first place team they would probably still struggle to fill the place.

They wouldn't have to fill the place because we don't have a 200 million dollar payroll. The Lightning avg 20k fans a night which is good enough for 6th in the NHL and the Rays could do at least that. Of course Tampa traffic isn't as bad as cities with more than 10 million people but an hour+ drive is just that no matter where you live. This isn't a competition Bigdog.

No one but you said this is a competition, I'm only giving my opinion that the hour distance is a poor excuse for low fan support.

And the Lightning's max seating capacity is only 20,500 which means they sell out most of the time or are near full capacity. Most major league parks are not even half full @ 20k people. Half full parks are not going to cut it for a team looking to get support from the state and more specifically tax payers.

The Marlins basically trading away their team for scraps after the tax payers built them a new park wont help things either. If the Rays and their fans want a new park the fans need to start supporting them!

Alvarado just needs to develop an off speed pitch of some sort. I don't think I've seen him throw anything under 95 mph.

Epic comeback by the Dodgers yesterday: behind 3-8 in the 7th, they score 1 in the b7, 1 in the b8 and 4 runs in the 9th against the Mets’s closer (Diaz).
LAD bullpen is horrible however (even worse than last year at the same period !): WAS is the only team with a worse bullpen (per baseball-reference)
