NYY could’ve possibly gone back 2-0 if it wasn’t for Boone bringing in Ottavino too early. That, and their was a dry spell for the Yankees’ bats heading into the crucial later innings. Can’t be doing that with Cole on the mound in Gm 3.

That's what happens when you dip in to the well too early and often. Sanchez needs to stop swinging at pitches outside of the zone. That called strike three that was outside of the zone was a make up call for the phantom foul tip earlier in that AB. The offense late in the game was going back to bad habits (it appeared everyone was swinging to hit a HR).

Sanchez needs to learn the strike zone. I’m tired about hearing how great of a hitter he is because he’s got great power for a catcher. His batting average and on base percentage are dreadful because he chases pitches out of the zone.

Definitely a frustrating game last night. At least the Yanks did what they absolutely had to do which was win game 1. I don’t expect a sweep in NY so have to hope to go back to Houston up 3-2 and do what the 2017 team was unable to do..win game 6 or game 7.

Also...if Stanton can’t play, they need to take him off the roster. If you can’t gut out an injury in the ALCS, then you shouldn’t occupy a roster spot. Not getting on Stanton...just saying that if he can’t play game 2 and can’t play tomorrow, then you need someone on the bench who can, like Tyler Wade who can pinch run in a key spot late.

Well, they did said he could have PH last night. I do agree with you that if he can't play, Tyler Wade is a perfect roster replacement to have coming of the bench to PR late in a game.

Hicks should have started over Maybin yesterday. Hopefully they choose to do so tomorrow if Stanton is out longer..

They are not making a decision on Stanton until tomorrow.

I get why they didn't start Hicks. He hasn't had any MLB at bats in months so to just throw him out there against Verlander would have been risky. But tomorrow at Yankee Stadium, he should probably be out there if Stanton can't play. Might as well have another left handed bat in the lineup as well against Cole.

Bryce Harper leaves the Nationals for a big payday and now the Nationals are one win from the World Series.

He was holding them back.

Stanton is out of GM 3 but not of the series. It's going to be interesting how things pan out with rain in the forecast over here in the NYC area (I'm not far from the Stadium).

If we keep batting the way we are (swinging for a 3HR nearly every AB), we're not winning this game.

So many chances against a less-than-stellar Cole, and they still struggle to get great contact on the ball. Some of the batters have good patience, allowing more walks and Cole’s pitch count to get up, but man, they gotta lay off those low pitches and get the pitch count up early in the at-bats. Wait for those down the middle pitches that could help their case with RISP.

If Houston happens to keep Gerrit in the game, Yankees need to pounce on his tiring arm ASAP before the 7th or 8th.

Where they really messed was in the 1st when they had runners on 1st and 2nd with no out and Gardner at the plate. He could have put one down and at worst be runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out (with Garndner's speed, the 3rd baseman would have to rush to get him and and possibly make a wild throw).

Cole would have had to pitch much differently than with runners on 1st and 2nd.

Also, after the 1st inning, every time they have a runner in scoring position, it's with 2 outs.

Two relatively (and unsurprisingly) quick outs in the bottom of the 5th.

Build. Up. The pitch count.

With Sanchez swinging at everything outside of the strike zone.

4-0. Might as well be down 14-0 with how crappy the offense has been. I might as well call it now that it's Astros and the Nats in the WS because this team isn't going to change the way they have been offensively (going back to HR or nothing).

UPDATE:They had gone 14 1/3 innings without a run before Torres's HR. SMH

Very tough game to watch. There are several things that are annoying me. The first is Sanchez. I’ve had enough of him. Look at his postseason stats. He doesn’t hit good pitching because he has no idea of the strike zone. He’s a mistake hitter. Number 2...why is Gardner hitting 3rd? He’s been struggling in the playoffs so does it make any sense to bat him above Torres? Maybe I’m missing something there. And third...Ottovino. He has killed this team in the series and didn’t pitch well against the Twins either.

The reason we're about to go down 2-1 is the offense. The pitching overall has done well for us. It's the offense that is reverting back to old habits (HR or nothing).

Besides Gleyber, and DJ, the Yanks are batting horribly. They're really trying to force the issue too much, and it's leading to quick outs, or strikeouts. Their pitching has been mostly great, aside from Otto.

Yes and no. They are going up against Cole today and Severino was awful early on and put them in a hole. But I question the batting order too. Torres is the hottest hitter on the planet right now and he’s hitting behind two hitters that have really struggled. Gardner should not be hitting 3rd. Torres needs to hit 3rd at this point.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I can't argue against that. Gardner shouldn't be trying to hit HR's. He needs to put the ball on the ground and use his speed.

The rainout is really going to hurt the Yanks too. There won’t be any additional days off and the Yanks won’t be able to unload their pen if the starter can’t give them length. The flawed Yankee rotation could end up killing them this series.
