Yelich will be making good money but he's still going to be underpaid relatively speaking. I just read the dumbest take though that the Red Sox could have easily offered Betts $30-35 by comparison. Umm yeah no. Just because one star chose to take less money doesn't mean another should have to.

The Boston Red Sox are hypocrites. They have consistently offered big money to Free Agents, but have rarely re-signed their own superstars/homegrown players to big money or multiple years. They strung Ortiz along year to year for quite awhile. The only exception I remember is Pedroia's contract when he took a discount and the bad contracts they just gave to Sale and Eovaldi.

As for Yelich. I just don't like him. Punchable face.

Spring Training continues to go on, probably not for much longer. Really hope this does not impact the regular season, although that's only a few weeks away at this point.

I feel like we're in one of those post-apocalyptic movies or the Twilight Zone. I don't know what's going to happen, but I hope we can all get through this as a society.

Definitely surreal, just so unprecedented in the sports world. We've seen strikes and shutdowns and 9/11 but nothing like this.

Worth noting that the 1995 season was 144 games because of the strike, so I suspect if they are able to get back up and running in mid-April they'll just roll with a shorter season.

They could always play the early games in empty stadiums, posing almost no health risk.

Baseball is a non-contact sport. This isn't like basketball where the athletes are literally sweating on each other.

Still contact, just much less extreme. Runner slides onto base or home. Hitter charges at the pitcher.

Here in Australia, the Australian football league had announced that all games will be played in empty stadiums. We average 50,000 people per game so the atmosphere is going to be boring. But it will be fun watching it on TV and hearing what the players say to each other with the umpires microphones on that are usually drowned out by the crowd noise.

Since there's no baseball, Ken Burns got PBS to stream his Baseball series for free. Don't know for how long.

Best. Sport. Documentary. Ever.
I own it on DVD. Baseball isn't too big here in Australia but for me it's my favourite sport on the planet behind Australian Rules Football.

I've got tickets to a Red Sox game in mid April, that I bought in December from the MLB site. Since the games will obviously be cancelled and not made up (I would assume anyway), should I expect a refund? Or would they just give me a credit to use later? It's not like I can just show up anytime, as I was flying in from the SF Bay Area.

Anyone see the 32 game season proposed on ESPN? Because other sports are cancelled until September, each team would play a division opponent four times on the road and four times at home.

It seems weird, and they'd have to end the season with an asterisk of some sort, but man that would be high stakes.

There's no way MLB would play that few games because of revenue loss. I expect most of the season's games get played, like at least 120 games. It's doable if they cut out the all-star break, play doubleheaders every week, and eliminate a few off-days.
