A full year of service time for 2020.
Expanded rosters in 2020 and 2021.
Universal DH for 2020 and 2021.
Draft pick compensation waved for Type A and B free agents in 2020 and 2021.
Full pro-rated pay.
Suspension of luxury tax in 2020.
25% of post season revenues.

To turn down all of these things, that will only help their cause down the road, is insane! They are equally guilty but it really does not matter at this point because there will be no baseball in 2020. My guess is that they will strike in 2021 until a new CBA is agreed upon.

That's the problem, the players think its a "players vs. owners" battle, but it will very soon turn into the people (fans) vs. mlb in general.

Throw in all of the cord cutting of tv packages in the news recently is adding gasoline to the fire.

Would you do the whole quarantine bubble thing for a 37% season? 37% season is not a season.

It's apparently going to be a 60-game season starting July 24th. Ten teams make the playoffs.

They are going with that stupid ghost runner rule in extra innings they've been using in the minors.

MLB and MLBPA have absolutely squandered this chance promoting the game with fans desperate for sports. It's disgusting how this entire season has unfolded.

Manfred has to go. He's made Bud Selig look like the greatest commissioner in sports compared to this clown show.

Passan notes, however, that it's hard to trust that anything has actually been agreed upon until the ink is dry on the necessary documents. The rampant public posturing in the negotiations between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association has left us all cynical. The players will presumably vote on the health/safety measures and MLB's proposed schedule dates on Tuesday morning or afternoon, as the league wants a response by Tuesday evening -- at 5 p.m. ET, to be exact. It sounds like baseball will ultimately give it a go amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still a big threat to at some point halt the whole thing. The plan is for a 60-game regular season beginning around July 24-27.

COVID has made everyone see the need to adjust their lives for the greater good. This me first attitude is a very BIG problem lately in all facets of life.

IMO, the only chance that MLB and the players have of endearing themselves to the fans and possibly adding to its base, is to offer the MLB package with no blackouts to all of America for free. This will hopefully give everyone something to take their mind off of all the negativity that is constantly in our face. Baseball is beautiful and a salve that can help to sooth the soul!

have they explained why they are doing this? all ive seen is "due to the shortened season" they are implementing the extra innings rule...why are they trying to speed up the game?

Aside from preventing marathon games, I think it is because of the ramped-up travel and compacted schedule, you don't have to travel across the coast so they're putting more games closer together. It prevents home teams from playing a marathon game and playing the next day on a few hours rest. I doubt they'd have road teams playing back to back dates in different cities though, just like normal.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks its because MLB wants to try out all the crazy things this season as an experiment. Personally I don't really like the rule, but since the last batter out in the previous inning is automatically the ghost runner it could make for some interesting running if the average 1B or catcher is the last out.

yea, not a fan of changing rules of the game no matter the intention...if a game goes long, it goes long

also, you said last batter is the runner...can the runner be swapped?

You can pinch run for the ghost runner.

The only time you really have speedsters on the bench (normally) is during the expanded rosters in the last month of the season and sometimes the playoffs. Kansas City Royals' Terrance Gore and Jarrod Dyson come to mind - especially Gore, every time Billy Butler got walked after the 5th inning in the playoffs, Gore would pinch run and already be on second base after the first pitch.

dont need to be a so called speedster....just needs to be faster than the man on base....a single could win the game...

Hey! Nice to see a Royals fan. I absolutely love Kaufman Stadium. Watching Bo Jackson play in 1989 was a special game to attend.

I remember using ghost runners as a kid with my buddies all the time. Strange to see it make it to this level.

It looks like the 'ol spit ball might resurface. Pitchers are allowed to carry a wet rag in their back pocket to use instead of licking their fingers.

Ghost runner can be Billy Hamilton's main job this season.

He's currently on a minor league deal with the Giants. I am guessing that he would be a hot commodity for any team that has a real shot at the title. Come time for the playoffs, that's a real weapon. Just ask the Sandman his thoughts on Dave Roberts.

I have nothing but respect for Bonilla. He’s doing the damn thing.
