tigers general manager al avila announced that the club will call up top prospects casey mize and tarik skubal to make their major league debuts this week against the white sox.

The club is also calling up prospect shortstop isaac paredes. Skubal is slated to pitch on tuesday while mize will go on wednesday. Mize, who holds a 2.71 era, 0.967 whip and 120/26 k/bb ratio over 123 minor league innings, will understandably get most of the attention here. He's a must-grab where he's still available in fantasy leagues. However, don't overlook skubal. The 23-year-old southpaw had a 2.42 era and 179/37 k/bb ratio over 122 2/3 innings between high-a and double-a last year and entered 2020 as a top-50 prospect according to baseball america and mlb pipeline. He also qualifies as a must-pickup in mixed leagues. The tigers sit at 9-10 on the year and have a legitimate shot at sneaking into a wild card spot with the expanded playoff structure. These prospects could make things interesting as far as that is concerned. Fun times in detroit.

For Detroit might be to late they should have brought these guys in when CJ Cron went down for the season

I miss Cron, I still think Minnesota made a mistake letting him go. Too many HR hitters on our roster and not enough guys who can also put the ball in play.

I don't even know why the Angels draft these guys if they're just going to let them go with no backup plan. I get Pujols is still there, but maybe Pujols and Ohtani could have some kind of timeshare at DH and have Cron at first. I think because Matt Thaiss was coming up they thought they had something.

Cron was a first round pick by the Angels, they couldn't offer him a one or two year prove it deal? His numbers weren't even that bad.

I could kind of understand why they let Garrett Richards go, even though I don't like it.

Twins win on the bat of Cruz and decent bullpen work that got a bit shaky in the 9th. Nice return to form after last week's slide. Hope they can keep it going tomorrow against Milwaukee.

This is part of a detailed story which indicates MLB is in the process of putting together an operating manual for a playoff bubble. It's a logical plan, as bubbles would limit travel and lessen the possibility of a COVID-19 outbreak. The plan would be similar in nature to what the NHL is doing with their playoff system. While Southern California and Texas are the early favorites and make plenty of sense due to warmer temperatures, New York and Chicago/Milwaukee are also being considered. According to an example in the story, the bubbles would begin after the Wild Card round, with the NL teams playing in San Diego and the AL Teams playing in Arlington. MLB could then move to a single site for the NLCS/ALCS or keep separate bubbles until the World Series. There should be more clarity on the plan in the days ahead, but all signs point to the bubble being implemented.

Well, we're at the halfway point of the season for most teams. Seems weird to not have an all-star game.

9-2 after a 4 game losing streak has us at 19-10 at nearly the half-way point. A much more realistic record for us after starting 10-2.

I'm thinking that MLB needs to come up with a better PED testing system. Too many big guys are constantly getting hurt yet they never test positive.

The Brewers have decided not to play Wednesday's game versus the Reds in protest following the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Reds have agreed not to play, as well, so this will not be a forfeit situation. The Milwaukee Bucks first decided not to play their playoff game against the Magic following the police shooting of Blake and the NBA then announced that all playoff games would be postponed. Jeff Passan of ESPN has reported that other teams are considering not playing Wednesday, as well, with the Mariners being one of them. It's a watershed moment in sports.
