I think one issue is that baseball is scouting taller and taller players these days and they are far more prone to breaking down over the season. Stanton and Judge may be carrying too much muscle mass at that height to remain injury free.

It sounds like it came out of a bad situation with MLB trying to convince them to play (I get there are scheduling issues with both the Mets and Marlins behind due to COVID delays, but I think it was totally wrong for MLB to try and get these teams to play when everyone else took off either yesterday or today) but really like how the Mets/Marlins protest was handled. There was questions about if a game was being played, but both sides just got on the field, had a moment of silence (42 seconds long probably to honor Jackie Robinson in another nice touch), and walked off the field leaving only a Black Lives Matter T Shirt on home plate. Actually feel like that makes a much stronger statement that if it is announced in advance a game is canceled with a simple tweet from the teams. |

Mariners straight up fleeced the Padres. Good lord.

Why is that? The centerpiece acquired prospect for the Mariners was Taylor Trammell, who is hitting below .240 in AA ball.
In return they got a catcher hitting who hit .269 last year and .306 in the majors with years of team control left on the clock. The Padres were weak at catcher and strong at nearly every other position. I'm not going to say it is a case of "Trader Jerry strikes again" but it seems like a good trade for the Padres, even if Trammell is ranked number 60 in MLB pipeline. |

For Seattle, Trammell is the key piece in this trade. Though not without flaws, he's a good enough athlete to warrant mentions as one of baseball's top prospects. For MLB.com, he now rates as the No. 6 talent in a Mariners system that's one of the league's best. France is a versatile infielder with an awakening bat (.885 OPS) and club control through 2025. Munoz should regain his triple-digit fastball if he makes a full recovery from Tommy John surgery. Torrens will provide depth at catcher, which Seattle certainly needed. All told, a very good haul for a late-bloomer and two relievers. |

Pittsburgh Pirates Get: RHP Chris Archer Hope seemed to be lost for the Pirates, but this is a move befitting of a team that's climbed back into the NL Central race via a 15-4 run. Although Archer only has a 4.10 ERA since 2016, his ace reputation still holds some water. His trademark fastball-slider combination are going strong. And despite his diminished strikeout rate, his contact rate is still well below average. A move to the National League should get those two things in line. Also, the Pirates will control Archer through as far as 2021. They're not getting a mere rental, and they didn't give up any vital players to make this deal happen. Grade: A Tampa Bay Rays Get: OF Austin Meadows, RHP Tyler Glasnow and a player to be named later The Rays are effectively swapping out a former ace for former elite prospects. Meadows entered 2018 as a top outfield prospect, and he initially looked the part in the majors before falling into a slump. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old still projects as a do-it-all everyday outfielder. Glasnow is a year removed being a top prospect. Beyond losing his rookie status, he's also lost some shine by way of his frequent control problems. But he's still only 24, and he has both a big frame (6'8", 220 lbs) and big stuff. Meanwhile, Jon Heyman of Fancred reports the PTBNL in the deal is a "real asset." If so, the Rays turned a controllable arm into three decent pieces. Grade: A- Bleacher Report one year later: Bleacher Report - 1 Year Later, Pirates' Chris Archer Trade Looks Like a Colossal Disaster The Padres needed pen arms, catcher, a high-end starter, and left field help. They got everything except left field in two days and didn't trade their 4 top-end prospects. Obviously time will tell with Trammell, but premiere athletes with average hit and average power grades fail at the MLB level all the time. Last edited by ctujackbauer; 08-31-2020 at 11:19 PM. |

tcripe quoted bleacher report and I thought it would be a good idea to use a bleacher report trade grade from 2 years ago that bleacher report later said was a colossal disaster.
Bleacher report trade grades for everybody. |
