Just a thought, but... the Yankees might be playing up their interest in Granderson as part of negotiating with Matsui/Damon.

If Matsui/Damon think the Yankees have Granderson as a backup, they'll have to lower their demands.

So Granderson's average is a bit crappier than the others, but he actually out-slugged them for HRs, and the RBIs aren't necessarily his fault if he wasn't batting with runners on base as often as the other guys. Not to mention he's a much better outfielder (Damon is notorious for his weak arm, and Matsui can't play the field at all).

It would take some decent young players to get Granderson. It would likely cost the Yankees some combination from the group of Austin Jackson, Joba, Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, and David Adams. The Tigers need to trim payroll and Granderson is due almost $24 million over the next 3 years so they aren't going to want to take any kind of salary in return. Still, I think it makes sense to get Granderson for less than a $8 million/year average than to resign Johnny Damon for at least $10 million per year. Granderson is a much better player and is only 28.

Not only that but I think he had like 1-4 games where he didn't have any run support going into the 5th inning, that might have been the wrong stat, but it was something crazy. I think he could have won 20+ this year on a team like the Yankees.

While it's a shame that a Yankee didn't win MVP, I'd still like to point out that I was right about who the real MVP on the Yankees was.

I said Teixeira, someone else in this thread tried to argue it was Jeter.
