Well 6 less years and over a 100 million less is a good reason why the deal finally got done imo, clearly the medical issue seems to look toward the future and where he would of been in the later years of a 10+ plus year contract.

Bought a Fantasy Baseball mag the other day, it’s been awhile since I’ve done fantasy but would like to get back into it.

Scott Rolen made the HOF. I think it was largely due to his defensive ability/all those Gold Gloves. Going purely off his batting numbers, he was similar to guys like Paul O'Neill who never cracked 3% in the HOF vote. He only finished top-10 in the MVP vote one time in his career.

Of all the signings my Mets have done this off-season, the ones that made me happiest were re-signing Brandon Nimmo & Jeff McNeil. They are my favorite Mets and I consider them the heart and soul of the team.

My favorite kind of ballplayers are scrappy guys who always hustle and these 2 remind me of guys like Wally Bachman and Lenny Dykstra. I love watching Nimmo run to first after walking as he often does after one of his 10-12 pitch at-bats. What a stark contrast to watching Robinson Cano 'run' to try and beat out an infield single...

P.S. - I 'adopted' 2 baby squirrels this past spring and fed them all year, especially in the fall to fatten them up for winter. One of them in particular got close and trusted me, and I named him Jeff McNeil in honor of Jeff. There's even quite a bit of resemblance!

Come on guys, spring training games are nearing, where's the enthusiasm for what I still {and ALWAYS will} consider America's greatest sport??

It's kinda sad when a thread for a non-sport is FAR more active than the MLB thread. I suppose, at 59 years old, I'm about twice the age of the average member here these days, which is also quite obvious when I browse the music related threads and have not heard of most of the artists mentioned. Even worse, if I sample a little bit of some of said music, this is usually my reaction:

I saw McNeil when he was rehabbing with Syracuse two years ago when they were playing the Yankees AAA affiliate (Railriders) in Scranton. He's definitely beloved and yeah squirrels can be all cute until they try to chew their way into your house!

Can't wait to see what the overhauled outfield for the Jays is like this season (And the overhauled stadium for that matter).

I like the moves they Jays made this off-season, nothing major, but interesting none the less.

I'll miss seeing Teoscar in the outfield.

So a dumb tournament that means less than 0, just essentially destroyed the Mets season 2 weeks before it starts.

I hope MLB owners stop allowing their players to compete in these worthless events, to have your newly signed 100 million dollar closer ruin his knee and possible career playing a meaningless game has to be absolutely infuriating for Mets fans right now.

If your 100 million dollar closer can't get through a celebration, then perhaps he isn't as durable as advertised.

The Angels' Kendry Morales was injured for 2 years after a celebration. As much as it hurts to say, Morales probably wasn't long for a world of late career stats if he couldn't stand a celebration - a celebration that is usually fine 99.9% of the time for everyone else.

There have been season-enders in spring training this year. The WBC isn't much different.
