This means Theo thinks Mike Lowell is completely done. An expensive move for a player that has not been that good offensively for several years now.

$10m for Beltre is a great deal considering they only gave him a one year contract. It's cheap and very low risk.

Safeco is a tough ballpark to hit in and Beltre will surely improve at a hitter-friendly ballpark such as Fenway. He'll hit 25+ HRs and should keep his average above .270 with decent OPS. His real value comes in his defense.

The Redsox are clearly going the pitching/defensive route. They have completely revamped the defense and it's one of the best in the league. They may not have as strong as an offense in past years but it's still solid.

Definitely agree it's way too much money. Maybe this could be justified by the Yanks or Sox but not a smaller market in St. Louis. Pujols has 2 years left on his deal and he'll be 31 at that time. If he's not willing to give the Cards a hometown discount I'd think he could get somewhere in the 8 years/$240 million range, and maybe even more. The Cardinals want to keep their payroll around $100 million and it'd be difficult to do that if Pujols and Holliday combine for around $48 million.

Yeah really I knew I couldn't be wrong about them being a small market for spending, and maybe you know better then I, but isn't some of their pitching going to expire around then also?

Andre Dawson was the only player elected to the Hall of Fame. It was his ninth time on the ballot. It was widely expected that Roberto Alomar would make it in his first appearance on the ballot, but he only received 73.7% of the votes, just below the required 75%.
