Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I knew the Yankees weren't keeping him, and so I never really paid attention to the day-to-day off-season stuff (unless it was related to the Yankees).

The two are also similar to me, in that I would've liked to see both stay on the team. I went to a Yankees/Angels game last year, and was glad to see the reception Abreu got from the crowd.

Teams as a whole have gotten smarter dealing with veteran free agents that are not true stars anymore. Damon will be lucky to get a two-year contract at this point.

The Mets acquired OF Gary Matthews Jr. from the Angels. It isn't known what the Mets gave up but it is expected to be a cheap major league pitcher. Matthews was named in the Mitchell Report and has done very poorly since MLB started testing for steroids and he's had some injuries. He was fortunate enough to get a 5 year/$50.5 million contract in 2006 and the Angels will still pay the majority of the 2 years/$23 million remaining on the deal.

I'd be more mad about that then a guy who just started getting hurt and couldn't play a-la Kerry Wood/Prior as opposed to a guy who was named in the roids report and then suspiciously dropped off.

Its kind of a joke like the article says, everyone road him real bad when the roids thing hit, now he wins a world series and its like meh no worries sorry about saying you are the scum of baseball here have this trophy.

I just didn't like his attitude but we gotta admit that he's a damn good baseball player!

Do a quick Google search, it was a pretty big story a couple years back. There was a stripper that he was spotted with at hotels in multiple cities during the season. In addition there was the rumor that he was dating Madonna while he was still married.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said the team cannot afford Johnny Damon unless he lowers his asking price. Apparently they offered him a one-year deal last weekend but have now backed off that. Damon and agent Scott Boras are now trying to get the Reds and Tigers interested. I highly doubt the Tigers would be interested since they are trying to cut salary, and the Reds just spent a lot of money on Chapman and have a lot of their young guys due bigger money in arbitration so I doubt they'd want him.
