He did get a ring. He was given it the following season when the Cubs (who he played for) played at Boston. His Boston teammates also voted him a playoff share, worth over $223,000.

Well the Yankees don't put their players' names on the backs of their jerseys, so anything that does have a name on the back looks kinda... weird. Of course, the authentic jerseys do cost more than the others though.

What about the practice shirts ?

I often see them with the names in back at Champion and other stores!

Let's hope A.J. Ellis can show us what he can do.

Perhaps if he steps it up it will cause Martin to step up his game as well? We cant have another .250 season from him.

Jellybeans- the BP jersey's don't have the name on the back either.

This is a small breakdown on why the Yankees don't wear the names..It all comes down to tradition and excellence.

The Yankees were the first team to ever wear numbers. They did so to remember who hit where in the batting order. Hence the Babe being 3 and Gehrig 4. It was adopted by other teams and eventually became more of a way of identifying the players on the field more easily. Putting names on the back of jerseys kind of defeats the purpose of a number at this point. Most teams wear their names all the time. The Yankees never wear their names. The Red Sox only have their number (not name)at home only, on the road they have their name on their jersey. There might be another team or 2 that does not wear names at home, but it's very rare.

Also, by having only numbers on the backs of the jerseys, fans were forced to pay for programs to know who was batting when...it was a way for the stadiums to make money. The Yankees never adopted this trend, and instead stuck with tradition.

Possibly. Martin put back on some weight this off season that he had purposely taken off the previous off season. If Martin continues to slump, I could see him getting traded.

He needs to hit at least .285, obp of .380, and slg of .450 to be considered valuable in my book.

Alrighty everyone..these are some of the pics I took @ Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. I have more on my Macbook so I'll try and get those up tomorrow. This was during BP. I went for the first time last year and it was great. Only problem was Jeter was @ the WBC as well as all the other decent players. So I only saw the rookies, Johnny Damon, and Andy Pettitte pitch. As well as Goose Gossage, Tino, Reggie, and Yogi. It was awesome and an easy opportunity to get auto's. It doesn't have the crowds that the Bronx draws in. That was, until, the Yankees won the World Series. This time was a lot different. The place was packed and I didn't see any players give autographs. So much for all the balls that I brought anticipating I'd get lucky. Anyone want to buy a ball? lol $20 shipped.

The good news was that everyone was there. Jeter, A-rod, Posada, Cano, Teix, and the newest bash brother, Swisher. So it was a treat. I can't afford $1000 seats @ Yankee Stadium so I usually can't see much from what I sit normally. Tampa is a different story. A $1000 seat in Yankee Stadium is only $31 in Tampa so it's much more affordable and also doesn't lack the 56000 people. ( not that I don't love the environment)

Just a few quick things I noticed...Jeter yells a lot but not in a bad way lol...when he's @ short he makes almost like caveman yells. I guess it fires up the team lol. I heard it the first time and said "is that Jeter?" and a few other fans concurred and he continued to do it lol. You'd have to be there to get what I'm talking about. A women kept saying "Hi Derek"..and Jeter finally gave in and said "Hiiiiiiiiii"..it was hilarious and really lives up to his image that he's a good guy and well respected. This was the first time I was within 10 ft of him so it was very exciting. There was also a point where he looked to where I was standing and nodded..kinda like "how's it going"...maybe he saw my Jeter jersey lol. I turned to a few fans next to me and said " did Jeter just nod @ us" and they said ya ...

Posada was quiet and didn't say much.

Swisher- was the event of the day. He was messing with the fans and interacting with everyone..just not giving auto's..

A-rod - didn't acknowledge any fans but I'm not surprised. No one heckled him either. I was waiting for someone to say "how's Madonna"

Sorry for the long post..

CLIFF NOTES: Jeter is awesome and if you haven't gone to Tampa yet, GO!

Also, sorry for some of the pics being blurry...crappy digital camera.

Their de facto playoff slot is the problem.

Or...just have all the franchises share equally in the broadcasting profits or either invoke a salary cap or even both so that ALL TEAMS are on equal footing and no other has an unfair advantage over another one unless it involves bad moves by the club's management.

No how hard was that...and who would be against it?

Somebody please wake up 'bud selig' and run this by him.

I still don't understand the 25 pounds. You have to wonder if that contributed just a little bit to his injury. And I agree if he doesn't step it up he might be good trade bait. Sure wish we still had Carlos Santana in our system at this point.

With a salary CAP comes a MINIMUM salary. Are small market teams like KC, Milwaukee, Florida, etc., ready to pony up?

Also, should big draw teams like the Yankees and Red Sox snag the extra profits from teams like KC when their attendance goes from 15k to 40k per game for a series?

I mean, let's be fair after all.
