lol..I only go once a year so start saving! My budget is always unlimited since I use a credit card. :...Driving is a ***** but cheaper than flying. Hotels in Tampa range from $70-100/night. I stayed @ the Holiday Inn Express which was within walking distance of the stadium so I didn't have to pay for parking. Best seats are $31 each. It's not an expensive trip if you're only planning on seeing the Yankees and not everything else in the surrounding area. Disney/Seaworld/Universal are over $100/day if you include parking and food. I can't wait until next year..

I mean, let's be fair after all.

Well I have to admit that I don't know what the perfect way to do this is but something sure needs to be done.

For instance when Mark Teixeira became a free agent a little over a year ago the Nationals were on record as saying that they were going to outbid everybody for him. They desperately needed his services and had the money to spend for him, however he ended up choosing the Yankees for LESS MONEY(can't blame him, I would have done the exact same thing myself). Now how fair is that? If a salary cap had been in place that would not have happened. Heck, he may have ended up in Baltimore instead which would have been pretty neat too.

But one team getting to 'cherry pick' the best players over everybody else just seems very wrong.

And maybe just letting a team trade away draft picks might end up being a huge step in straitening this out. Can you just imagine what the Nationals could have traded for with their Stephen Strasburg pick?

I heard somewhere that one of the soccer leagues over in either England or Europe had one of the best systems where if an organization did not spend on their Team they were then regulated to some sort of AAA league where they could not play with the top dogs.

Of course the irony in all of this is that the Nats have a winning record against Yankees from their two meetings so far.

Some pics of the Rays/Tigers spring training game in Lakeland, FL this past Sunday! Man, what a great day for baseball! Nothing better than a ball game on a beautiful Sunday afternoon! I know my Rays lost, but Jeff Niemann and Jason Jaso had a good game!

Our seats, 2nd row...

The Rays dugout...

BJ Upton...

Evan Longoria...

Carlos Pena...

Jeff Niemann...

One more thing, I want to take my hat off to Carlos Pena, he was the only one to sign autographs from either team...

So you have no room to complain then, as they obviously the better team.

Kidding aside, the Yankees are baseball's most proven winners throughout the history of the game, there is something to be said about donning the pinstripes. They also happen to be owned by probably the most passionate owner in sports, who will do anything at all costs to win. When you have both of those going for you, you're going to get both the players who are big into the history of the game, where being a Yankee means something special, along with the traditional winning reputation; as well as those looking for the biggest payday they can find. It's like the perfect storm of a sports franchise.

On the other hand, you have owners who are in financial situations just as good, if not better than the Steinbrenners, who are not willing to pay the higher salaries (Reds, A's, and Twins come to mind).

I agree that the system is not perfect, but I will not apologize for the Yankees spending as much of their own money as they want, knowing that they will spend more which will end up being filtered to other teams, in hopes of winning championships.

Makes sense. I wish that the same formula would be working for the 'Redskins' franchise. Daniel Synder has been killing us throwing his money all around with no results to show for it.

BTW, The Nationals cut 'Elijah Dukes' today. Does your organization want to take a chance on a young troubled youth that has lots of potential and raw power.

In a lot of ways, the 'Skins are a lot like the Yankees these days to me. Big name, big money free agents. I think one of their biggest issues in recent years has been the coaching situation. It'll be interesting to see how Shanny's grand plan works out. I've seen a few signings that seem to make sense, in Johnson and Grossman. Maybe they'll make a big splash in the draft as well.

About Dukes... ehhhh, I would hope not, but you just never know. They've signed many a troubled individual before.

On another note, the Nats are one of my sleeper picks this year. They have SO much potential in the pitching department, with the additions of Marquis, Bruney, Wang (if he can stay healthy and return to form), and of course, Strasburg, if they handle him properly. I also think Pudge will be great for the youngsters in the clubhouse. It won't be long until they're looking down on other teams in the division again. I'm predicting about 78-84 wins this year, which may not be enough to give Philly a run for the division, but I believe they'll be in the thick of it for the wild card.

Yeah its a different sport where individuals while working in sync can change a team, but if one guy isn't doing his job doesn't matter how good anyone else is. Where as with baseball (I wish he'd have bought the O's )you can stockpile talent where situations are more individual then team.

ya Jelly is nuts but there's nothing we can do about that.

Redliner..looked like a great day for beisbol! I even saw some Yankees hates in the crowd.:..it seems like getting auto's are a lost cause nowadays...it's truly a shame. I didn't see ANY Yankees singing auto's and that's truly a shame since the fans are what make them what they are and you'd figure with a 27 WS championship, they could take the time to sign a few auto's and make a kid or two happy.

Strasburg impressive in third spring start

By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

03/19/10 8:27 PM ET

VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg made his third Spring Training start on Friday against the Cardinals at Space Coast Stadium, and it was a good one.

According to Ivan Rodriguez, it might have been his last Major League start for a while.

"He has tremendous talent," Rodriguez said. "He is going to the Minor Leagues and get some starts there. He is going to come to our team very soon. This kid is amazing."

The Nationals have not confirmed that this will be Strasburg's last Spring Training appearance with the big club. The organization will hold a meeting on Saturday morning to determine if Strasburg will go to Minor League camp.

Strasburg pitched four innings, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out eight batters.

Strasburg got off to a slow start in the first, allowing solo home runs to Tyler Greene and Allen Craig. After Craig's home run, however, Strasburg allowed just two hits the rest of the way. At one point during the game, Strasburg struck out four consecutive batters.

Strasburg left the game with a 3-2 lead after four innings.

For the spring, Strasburg has pitched nine innings, given up two runs on eight hits, struck out 12 batters and walked one.

Also...

Quote:
Stephen Strasburg's striking preference: groundball outs

Strasburg's nine innings represent one complete game, 27 outs. Even after his huge strikeout performance tonight, the most impressive statistic may be this: None of those outs have come on fly balls to the outfield. He struck out 12, induced 14 groundouts, and got one measly popup.

Glad to see a pick of Nick Johnson there. I definitely miss the big guy as he was my second favorite player right behind Ryan Zimmerman.

He is a great OPS machine as you all know but be warned that he is as fragile as fine crystal. A few years ago he ended up on the disabled list for about half the year by stepping by home plate wrong while scoring a run for us. I hope that the DL is all behind him now specially since he will not be a direct opponent for us.

Yeah I had hoped the nats would have kept Johnson, also it sucks they don't let Strasburg stay up with the team , let the young guy get some buts in the seats!
