17 million a year for Josh Beckett? He isn't worth anywhere near that kind of money!

I do not believe Beckett is the pitcher he once was at his peak. His fastball velocity is clearly down, which makes all of his secondary offerings less dominant. That contract is a mistake for a pitcher with his track record of health. Of course, the Red Sox are a team that can easily absorb a few bad contracts, e.g. Mike Lowell, because of their revenues.

I think Gary Throne is a great announcer... Liked him back when he was on ESPN... We did lose Buck Martinez this year, but I really did not like him anyway... Plus they've also added Brady Anderson and Eddie Murray on the sidelines...

I like his voice, I just can't stand some of the things they talk about during the games.

I am really struggling to care about baseball this year. I am a Cubs fan but have hardly paid any attention to them this spring. Their game starts in an hour and I don't even know who they play. Maybe once the game gets going and I get to listen to the great Ron Santo I'll get excited.

It's scary how high the expectations are for Heyward. It's going to be next to impossible for him to live up to them. People are expecting him to be a star right away and are forgetting how young and inexperienced he is and that there are going to be growing pains.

Marlon Byrd three-run homer in his first Cubs at-bat. Once the game actually started I got excited for baseball to be back.

Haha, yeah that first game usually sparks my interest - the homer probably didn't hurt, either! It's a tough time, trying to juggle the start of baseball and the end of basketball & hockey.
