Yup, Longoria is a Sox Killer! That guy is unreal. Sox were lucky to win the weekend series with the Rays, well, lucky to have Jason Bay. He is really ripping it up this year, batting .324 w/ 9 HRs and 34 RBIs.

Hilarious how they are hyping this up on Rogers Sportsnet... teacher vs student seems a bit dramatic... the commercials remind me of previews for Return of the Jedi or something lol.

Anyone else been paying attention to Stephen Strasburg at San Diego State? He was undrafted coming out of high school 3 years ago and now people are saying he's one of the best pitching prospects ever. He had a 17 strikeout no hitter in his last home game over the weekend. It will be very interesting when the Nationals take him first in the draft because Scott Boras is his agent and reportedly wants $50-60 million over 6 years. Former Nats GM Jim Bowden said the decision to draft Strasburg was made a long time ago, and the Nats current GM was at the game so it appears they will take Strasburg. No draft pick has ever gotten over $15 million, and the Nationals are a notoriously cheap franchise. You can't trade draft picks, so if the Nationals draft him they'll either sign him or he'll go back into the draft next year. It will be interesting if the Nationals refuse to come even close to Boras' price because the alternative to signing with the Nationals would be pitching for a minor league team or returning to school. Since the Nationals likely will have the number 1 pick next year (and if they don't sign Strasburg they'd also have the number 2 pick since they didn't sign the number 1 pick in 2009) it is possible Strasburg could get picked by the Nats again.

I think he looks good and sometimes great but I wouldn't give 50-60 million maybe 10-30 and then once he rocked it give him that CC contract. They should just pick him now. And when next year rolls around get that best guy lol

$50-60 million is absurd considering no one has ever been given anything over $15 million.

Anything over $15 million is a winning situation for Strasburg and Boras. Being a pitcher, he would be down right stupid to turn down anything over $15 million.

Blow out an elbow or a shoulder and you are done as a pitcher.

Unrelated to the current MLB seasons, but Happy Birthday to Yogi Berra! (I'm sure he lurks around the BD.com forums).

The greatest living legend (Hank who?) turned 84 today.

Yeah, I only have a few autographs... 5 to be exact.

Girardi and Leyritz showed up to the bank my aunt worked at, days after winning the 98 World Series, and I guess gave some signed balls to some of the bank employees.

The others are Jeter and Mattingly, who were two of my favorite Yankees growing up. I should seek out a Posada ball, because he's been my favorite player for the last decade.

And the last one is a card signed by Yogi, which is great, because he might be my favorite player of all-time, even though I obviously never saw him play (or at least not live, as it happened).

The pictures of Berra standing by home plate in the final game of Yankee Stadium are some of the saddest baseball pictures I've ever seen. I also feel kind of bad, as if they dressed him up in a costume.

Here are some:

Yeah, Steiner Sports is currently in the process of whoring out the old Yankee Stadium.

A pair of seats for $1900. A square foot of sod for $120, and ton of other things. I can't imagine what the lockers will be going for, or the Y-a-n-k-e-e S-t-a-d-i-u-m lettering from outside the stadium. I imagine they will sell each letter individually, but someone must want to own them all.

I have a hard time seeing pieces of "history" and not immediately feeling like I want it. When baseball cards first started adding pieces of bats and balls and bases to their inserts, I was going crazy trying to get some of them. It kind of lost it's appeal as I got older, and as they started to give them away too easily. I was under the impression (from some article I read) that some companies went as far as just having a player put on a jersey, and then take it off 2 seconds later, so they can claim it's a worn jersey.

Some of the stuff from Yankee Stadium I'd like to have, like maybe a chunk of the foul pole, or a piece of the outfield wall. But at the same time, I feel like if I buy a piece, I'd be contributing to the destruction of Yankee Stadium.

If I end up buying anything, I think I'd go after a wooden seat from the original stadium. The current seats they are selling are no older than the 70s, but some were replaced as recently as the 90s, so there's not a ton of history to them (other than the 2 championship years in the 70s and the dynasty of the 90s).

For Christmas I got a handcrafted/hand-painted miniature stadium replica of the original Yankee Stadium (the 1920's version). It will hopefully tide me over for a bit.

Yeah I just can't get over the hobby + I hear my dad whine about how many of the old cards that are like worth a ton now just go in a shoe box somewhere who knows what will happen in 40-70 years lol I do know one thing I like owning important sports stuff lol

Haha. The $50k for the NY logo is pretty crazy, but I guess since you get the NY stencil and a bucket of white paint, at least you get more than the grass.

I kind of like the freeze-dried grass, because then I wouldn't have to worry about it ever yellowing and dying... but it's $80 for a few blades of grass.
