its not that its small its that people get tired of the managements crap moves, and not willing to pay people, and we have a plethora of fairweather fans.

I'm surprised they've never dipped under 10k before.

I went to a game a few years ago, when I knew I'd be driving through Baltimore. A few days prior to the scheduled drive, I bought two tickets on eBay... for $1 each. Not bad seats either (2nd row of the upper level, right around 3rd base).

I would've guessed there were maybe 5 or 6k people in the seats. Of course, there are a bunch more walking around the stadium at any given time, but it didn't seem like it could be THAT much more.

I only sat in my seat for about two innings, then walked around the entire stadium, talked to a cop (about The Wire, among other things) and then left sometime around the 6th or 7th inning.

Nice stadium, but AT&T Park is still my favorite stadium that I've been too (excluding, of course, Yankee Stadium and New Yankee Stadium).

Giants win again and are now 6-2

Sanchez pitched a great game!!! pitched 8 innings giving up only 3 hits and 0 runs

Giants = best pitching staff in baseball

Soooo true... I can't remember the last I've been somewhere other than an Orioles games and actually saw someone wearing an Orioles shirt or jersey... Most O's fans seem to only support the team when they're winning... It's sad because even when the Ravens were not playoff caliber you would still see purple on everyone every Friday and Sunday...

That is pathetic, I'm really getting alarmed for MLB in general. Obviously the big teams sell a lot of tickets, but what about the rest of the teams? It makes me worry about the future of baseball, especially with the NFL being the television ratings and ticket selling juggernaut it it.(Minus Jacksonville)

MLB is quite healthy at the moment. Do not fear for its longevity. The Orioles' problem is a long stretch of irrelevance that has driven away the fans. They still have the best stadium in the game, they just need a better team and for Angelos to sell the team.

I think it has a lot to do with Orioles fans knowing they don't have a chance in hell at making the playoffs when you're competing against the Yankees & Red Sox... I don't expect the O's to make another playoff appearance until MLB initiates a salary cap...

Tampa Bay, in a much worse market and situation, just won a AL pennant two years ago. It is true the current management of the Orioles is inept, so that will pose a problem.

Well Selig is flirting with the idea of realignment so there may be hope for those in the AL East cash farm.

Very true the team they have now there is no way they can keep... I know I'm done with the Orioles if they don't keep Weiters, Jones, Matusz and any other young talent that produces. I can't stand when teams don't keep their young stars that grew in their organization.

True! Do you know, Evan Longoria is only being paid $500,000 a year? He's signed up till 2013/2014!

If you can scout and draft well, you got a chance!

Yeah I can't think of a better steal for a team than Evan's contract. 6 years $17.50 million. Unreal for this type of star.

And when his contract is up he'll either be a Yankee, Met, Red Sox, Cub, or Phillie... A salary cap will keep a lot of players within the organization that brought them up... It will take baseball back to when it was about building a team and not buying one...

I think salary caps are stupid.

Boston's population = 520,000

Baltimore's population = 780,000

Sure, median salaries in Boston are higher than in Baltimore (~50k vs ~40k), but:

Fenway capacity: 39,000

OP@CY capacity: 49,000

Baltimore is no more of a "small market" team than Boston, yet somehow Boston doesn't have issues competing for the division.

And it's not like Boston has a long history of winning either. The 2004 World Series was their first WS appearance in almost 20 years.

Since 1920, the Red Sox have made 6 World Series appearances. One every 15 years.

Since 1954 (their entire existence in Baltimore), the O's have made 7 World Series appearances. One every 7.8 years.

When the Yankees were steamrolling through baseball in the late 90s, Boston didn't cry about salary caps. They grabbed their balls, opened their checkbook, and put a competitive product on the field.

Success breeds success.

Why should the good teams be punished for their success? Because that's essentially what a salary cap does. "You're too good at what you do, it's not fair!" The crappy teams just need to quit whining, and step up their game. Instead of wishing to bring the good teams down to their crappy level, they should hope to raise themselves up to the good teams' level.

If I was in that situation and saw no attempt made to try to pay me my value and they just hung on to him till 2014 I'd have no problem walking away, Just like the O's playing games with players taking them to arbitration or waiting just up until that to pay them its a joke.

I agree our owner doesn't pay anyone anyway, so it wouldn't matter they'd probably just try to pay people even less!

I'd be all for a Dan Snyder type owning the Orioles, but it looks like I'll be waiting awhile for that.

Hey hey hey. I grew up in the 80s/90s, so all I knew as a kid, initially, were crappy Yankee teams. The lack of a salary cap wasn't doing them any good there.

I can still replay some Mattingly HRs in my head where the ball lands in a bunch of empty seats.

IMO you have to get some kind of a 'salary cap' in place.

After all, the Yankee$ are just using the other 29 teams as their own farm club, and has now become very similar to WWE Wrestling.

And somebody PLEASE wake up bud selig a run this by him.
