Good news fellow Yankees fans! The Yankees are not the most hated team in baseball.

According to the WSJ, they are only the 5th most hated team. The top 10:

1. Cleveland Indians
2. Boston Red Sox
3. Cincinnati Reds
4. Houston Astros
5. New York Yankees
6. Washington Nationals
7. Chicago White Sox
8. Baltimore Orioles
9. New York Mets
10. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Giants and Athletics were the most popular/liked.

If only you guys can win the NL East this year. My wife and in-laws are big Phillies fans and they all need an ego reduction when it comes to baseball. I'm the lowly Blue Jays fan. Yes, I take a beating each and every season.

"The San Francisco Giants....were the most-liked teams on this scale, suggesting that laid-back Northern California fans are the most accepting."

LOL, they sure weren't accepting of me and my younger brother when we were kids visiting Candlestick. They heckled us the entire time. There's something wrong with that article. The amount of hate from L.A. alone to that team should have made them crack the 10.

I have no idea how the ratings worked out, but if I imagine positive votes canceling out negative votes, I can see why the results are the way they are.

A lot of people hate the Yankees, but a lot of people love them too... enough to outweigh all the "haters", and put them at #5.

A lot of people have started to hate the Red Sox, and most of their love is centered around Boston. I know they have fans all over, but it's nothing compared to the fans the Yankees have all over. So I can see why they finished below the Yankees.

Cleveland fans hate their own team, and nobody else in the country has a reason to like them, so they have the worst score. Makes sense.

I will give the Giants credit though. I've only been to a handful or two of stadiums, but the Giants seemed like some of the most loyal fans. Based solely on how the home fans treated him, you'd have no idea anyone could hate Barry Bonds. Witnessing Bonds hit a HR, which landed a few feet away from me, will always be one of my greatest baseball memories. I've never seen a crowd go more crazy.

But for the Giants and A's to be #1 and 2, I assume it'd require nobody hating them. I'm guessing WSJ figured people outside of the bay area are apathetic toward the two teams.

Well, glad you had a good time there. My experience on the other hand made me a Giant hater for life!

lol... badwagoners usually jump on for a season or two becuase that how long a team is usually good for.... doesnt really apply to the Yanks since they are usually frontrunners to win it all just about every year....no?

Yes... for that very reason, nobody who grew up in lets say Houston TX would be a yankees fan if they had a record/ franchise win% like the nationals lol, its because they have won and are expected to win that people get all geeked up and jump on the bandwagon, which is inherently winning teams that have bandwagon fans

Seems our yankees fans here aren't like that (thank god) cause they usually seem to be the worst.

I can't stand people who are from say Denver and are Yankees fans, miami hurricane fans, and like cowboys fans can't have teams all over

Yeah, I have a friend (born and raised in Iowa) that is a Lakers, Yankees, 49ers, and Michigan fan. I'll give him a little credit because he has stuck with the 49ers through their down period, but I never could stand how he was a fan of 4 bandwagon teams.

The flood gates are open in Tampa tonight! Rays lead 9-0 over the Royals going into the 4th! Carl Crawford only need a home run for the cycle!

The Rays are on pace to score 1030 runs this year!

I really hope Ned Colletti gets fired (or at least his ass kicked) for singling out Matt Kemp for the Dodger woes.
