I really don't know what to make ofthe NL West this year. That division just seems like a total crapshoot. The Giants starting pitching has been fantastic so far. Lincecum is always great, Cain is solid and Zito is looking an aweful lot like his early days with the A's (so far).

BTW, Dan Plesac ranked The Nationals #10 on the MLB Network. And they get the #1 draft pick this year also. Maybe this plan is working after all. They are going to be KILLER come next year.

Yankees are on the verge of dropping the first game of their double-header against the Tigers today.

Pretty quick game so far. Currently 1 out in the bottom of the 8th, and the game started at 1:05.

And that was with Vazquez finally pitching a solid game. Two runs in seven innings. The Yankees offense has just 4 hits. Game time of just 2 hours 15 min.

Yeah, kind of a bummer. Good news is that he pitched well, bad news is he still got the L.

Oh well, now they have to fight to just split the series (since they've lost the first 2 of a 4 game set).

Halladay is just unreal. He's pitching another gem today - one run is six innings so far at hitter friendly Colorado. This guy reminds me of Maddux in his prime, the ability to throw complete game shutouts in barely 2 hours gametime.

Semi-related to baseball...

I picked up the MLB At-Bat 2010 app for Android (I believe it's been on the iPhone since last year).

It came in handy today for the day game, when I can't be home watching it on TV.

Aside from the pitch-by-pitch updates, and video highlights (they add videos of big plays, shortly after they happen), having access to the radio broadcasts wherever I am is nice (I don't really use a radio much).

What's also nice is the option to listen in on either radio broadcast (so I could switch between the Yankees and Tigers broadcasts, if I cared to).

Carlos Silva is 4-0 now for the Cubs, almost equaling the 5 combined wins he had in 2008 and 2009 for the Mariners. Silva joins Tim Lincecum and Chris Carpenter as the only pitchers with 4 wins and no losses. It's pretty sad the Cubs are only 15-20 because their starting pitching has been great all year, but their offense and bullpen have been horrible.

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't it Ryan Dempster last year or the year before who came up like wild fire then had an average post season... Maybe Silva is the new Dempster

Castro is still looking good with 2-4 not the RBI HR consistency like Heyward was doing but still very good for such a young kid.

lol I wanted Pavano so bad when he was a free agent and all the reports on how close Baltimore was to getting him thank god we missed him... Even though he's made some progress with the spotlight off him now.

The Cubs have 4 starters hitting over .315 this year. Guess it's just run production where they're lacking.

And Zambrano has stunk badly.

On paper the Cubs aren't playing horrible offense. 5th in the NL in batting average, and 6th in runs. Their big problem is a lot of their runs have come in big games. They also need to bench Aramis Ramirez. I said this last week when they called up Castro as well but he is just awful. He's hitting .159. They need to either move Theriot to third and start Fontenot at second or move Fontenot to third. Fontenot has doubled Aramis' batting average at .308, and he's been red hot the last week when he gets a start or is a substitute. I don't care if Aramis is due over $30 million over the next couple years, if there's a better player than he should be out.

Jason Heyward needs a nickname that befits a future Hall-of-Famer. I am going to start calling him the Monolith, in honor of the objects in 2001 that lead humanity to the next step in evolution.

Anything less than 600 homers from him will be a disappointment. He batted third today, as Chipper was off.

never know he could be a prodigy like Griffey was then be plagued by injuries. Hopefully he won't be and the ATL can have something to smile about.
