Ya, if he doesn't turn out to be among the finest players of his generation I'll be surprised. He's probably the best prospect the Braves have had since Chipper came along.

*EDIT* Or Andruw Jones who was cruising along towards the Hall of Fame until he had a complete and total mental breakdown.

Don't forget about Rafael Furcal!

Furcal has been a good MLB player but never really lived up to his enormous potential IMO.

The Rays just did something they haven't done since 1999! That is, taking 2 of 3 at Anahiem! I know the Rays got a perfect game thrown on them, but that's only one game! I'm very happy with going 6-3 on this 9 game west coast trip! Still the best record in the majors, 24-10!

I got to see Strasburg pitch earlier. The Nationals spared no expense and sent the eagle mascot, as well as the 4 Presidential mascots up to Syracuse for the game.

They let him go for 6 innings, in which he gave up no hits and one walk.

The reliever they put in for the 7th got the leadoff hitter out, and then gave up a walk, followed by a base hit to end the no-hitter.

I hate pitch counts. But obviously the Nationals need to "protect" their big investment.

Anyhow, Strasburg made most of these guys look like fools. He topped out at 98mph though. Only a couple guys made decent contact, but they were all easy outs.

Yankees had two runs in the first 17 innings of the double-header today and six runs in the final inning. Hughes is 5-0 with a 1.38 ERA on the year now. Another gem for him today.

I was saying before the season started they should put Hughes as a starter and Chamberlain as their 7th/8th inning guy. So far that's worked out extremely well for the Yankees. Chamberlain never should have been moved to starter to begin with.

This young catcher Cervielli is also quite impressive.

They are getting ready to show the entire game here in a few minutes.

The Nats are doing pretty good now, but their bullpen is almost gassed.
Luckly when they bring up Jeeees-uuuuus(Strasburg) next month, they will most likely also bring up their OTHER first round pick from last year too for relief- 'Drew Storen'. And we just lost another starter today Jason Marquis for 8 to 10 weeks due to bone chip surgery.

Next season just can't get here soon enough.

Yeah, I checked in on the game throughout the night using that At Bat app on my phone (the stadium I was at also has an old style manual scoreboard for various major league games, but they don't update it enough for my liking).

I agree that Chamberlain should've never been made a starter, because now he may think about wanting to be one again, instead of realizing he's just a reliever.

Cervelli seems to have caught on with the fans pretty well, even though him playing means another fan favorite (Posada) isn't playing (or at least is DH'ing). The ovation he got after leaning into the dugout for a catch last week was pretty surprising. He may only be killing some time, to bridge the gap between Posada and Jesus Montero (one of the top prospects in the Yankee system).

Storen... he's a reliever, right? I think that's the guy that gave up the hit in the 7th inning.

I thought since he was another big prospect that he could possibly carry out the rest of the no-hitter, but it wasn't meant to be.

Yep, that's him, #10 pick from last year. Maybe he was just fazed by all the press that was there today. - LOL -

When Rafael Furcal is healthy, he is a great player, definitely above average. A great leadoff man who can steal and hit for good power.

Hey! The Dodgers just swept the D-Backs! And we're finally .500!!!

Hey how about that! Pitching is finally starting to come around, thank god. Time to knock the Padres out of first this weekend....did I just say that?

Our starting rotation looks good. Ely too!!! But our bullpen needs work. Sherrill is messing things up for us. But our offense is still NASTY.

I was so worried that Sherill was going to blow Ely's first big league win the other night. I don't know what's wrong with this guy. He was lights out last year. Maybe time to send him down to AAA to work his problems out. And I gotta say I'm getting so tired of the way Joe Torre handles our bullpen. Wish the man would just trust our guys and not play the stat game every single time.

And yes our offense is still very nasty and will only get better when we get Furcal back.

Cubs aren't paying Milton Bradley's contract. The Mariners are paying Bradley, and the Cubs are paying Silva, although the Mariners gave the Cubs $9 million in the trade. I've never understood why the Mariners gave the Cubs that much. Silva had $25 million remaining on his deal, and Bradley had $22 million. The Cubs would have bought out Bradley if they couldn't strike a deal. I suppose the Mariners thought Silva had nothing left and Bradley could do well in the AL, but it looks like they were wrong on both counts. I don't expect Silva to keep pitching this well though, and his injury history scares me.

Sometimes I feel kinda bad Ichiro Suzuki is stuck out in the obscurity of Seattle. I was looking at Seattle's stats and Ichiro is his usual great self this year batting .348 while the team as a whole is hitting .231 on the season. Seems like that's the case every year. He plays his heart out and hits .330+ with 230+ hits every year without fail on teams with no hope of winnign anything.

Had he been able to play MLB his entire career rather than Japan he might be making a run at Rose's career hits record.

Pirates@Cubs tomorrow 220 est first pitch

PIT: Brian Burres
CHI: Tom Gorzelanny

Interesting matchup here, Burres has not given up a start in his last two outings, and Gorzelanny is one of the young Pitchers the Bucs gave up in the trade last year. Will be a fun game to watch.

First MLB manager of the year was fired today. It's Kansas City Royals manager Trey Hillman. May I be the first to ask what the point of this is? Casey Stengel could manage the Royals and fail to win 70 games.

Of course, it's just GOT to be the manager's fault. It couldn't possibly that the Royals suck and ownership won't spend any money to make them competitive.

Zack Greinke has a great ERA of 2.73 this year yet he's 1-4 despite never giving up more than 4 earned runs in any start this year.

It's really sad seeing formerly great franchises like KC and Pittsburgh suck year in and year out without making any effort at all to be competitive.

They just needed a fall guy, I imagine. I feel bad for the guy though. Maybe they could've started with one of the coaches.

Anyone read about Jared Saltalamacchia's problem that is keeping him out of the majors? He's suffering the same problem as the catcher from Major League 2, he can't accurately throw the ball to the pitcher. In his last game 12 of his throws to the pitcher landed short of the mound or in center field, including 5 bad throws in the first inning. Salt is hitting .343 in Triple-A, and the Rangers catcher is hitting .209, and his Triple-A manager admits the only reason he hasn't moved up to the Rangers is because of his problem throwing to the pitcher.
