Yankees are on a bit of a roll. 8 straight wins now.

Phil Hughes pitched only 5 innings today, but had 9 K's, including 8 that were swinging (which I think are the more impressive kind).

Haha. 1 of those 3 was a legit home run (Cabrera's).

Swisher's barely cleared the wall, and if the wall was the same distance as the old stadium (it's not) it would've been caught at the warning track.

Cano had the right idea... launch a ball as high up in the air as you can, and the wind will carry it out.

Looks like Peavy is going to the White Sox if he waves his no-trade clause. I'm curious what the Padres are getting for him and if it's better than the deal they were talking with the Cubs about in the offseason.

I see Notre Dame wants to play a football game at new Yankee Stadium. That should be interesting. It sounds like it would likely occur in 2013 vs. Army, which would be the 100th anniversary of the game where Notre Dame used the forward pass successfully to beat Army. Up to that point the forward pass had been little used.

Ray picthing tonight for the Jays... oh oh! Could be the first 3 game losing streak! Hopefully we can pull it out though. Tough for the rookies to win at Fenway.

Then we hit Inner-League play for the weekend(Jays in Atlanta) with I totally dispise! It's time the NL gets the DH!

It's time for the AL to realize there's no reason pitchers can't hit. The most exciting thing is when players like Carlos Zambrano go yard. I guarantee CC wishes the AL didn't have a DH. He loved to hit.

I have to disagree again. I wouldn't want someone like Roy Halladay hitting and risking injury by getting hit by a pitch or rounding the bases. I like how the pitchers and baby'ed in the AL.

CC has the home run power yes but I bet Girardi prfers him not to hit. Look what happened to Wang or Wong or whatever his name is from the Yanks. Hurt base running and hasn't been the same since.

In most cases, when i am watching a NL game and see the pitcher come up, it's time to pee or get something to eat haha.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, because over the years the Yankees have been very protective of their field, and not wanting to damage it.

Playing even a single game of football on the field will really do some damage, but maybe they will care less since it'd be during the off-season.

I don't remember the last time there was any sporting event played in YS, let alone football. Even with live concerts and things like that, they usually didn't let anyone on the field.

When the pope was there last year, in mid-season, they didn't let anyone on any of the grass in fair territory (they had some weird stage setup, in the shape of the dirt part of the infield, and put a lid thing on the pitcher's mound, then had ribbon things connecting the lid in the middle with the stage surrounding it). There were some people in chairs on some sort of platform they put on the grass, but only on the grass in foul territory behind home/near the dugouts.

Kind of weird looking.

(There are some better pictures online, but they were too big to post here).

Sounds like Peavy isn't very enthusiastic about the White Sox trade and isn't going to wave his no-trade clause. Apparently he wants to stay in the NL and isn't going to leave his new house in Southern California unless he feels the situation is good.

Peavy's agent to espn.com

"We aren't hiding anything from anybody. Jake has a strong preference to stay in the National League. He has a comfort zone there, he's been successful, and he's won a Cy Young Award. I don't know that on May 21, that preference has eroded very much. From our point of view we may say, 'Let's give [the Padres] more time and see if a National League team might step up over the next six weeks.'

If they want to start making history, they better make plans quicker than 4 years from now.

There are more Yankees fans than I thought that seem to be a bit apprehensive about the new stadium. I admit I never liked the idea, and would've preferred them playing at Shea for a few years while they renovated the original stadium again.

Sure the new stadium looks great, has lots of space, etc., but after spending an entire day there, it just didn't feel the same. Monument Park seems meaningless now... now it's like a Yankees version of the HoF, and you look at the plaques and go "Oh, that guy's a Yankee. So's that guy, and that guy...", whereas in the old stadium you look at a plaque then turn around and see the field and think "wow, this guy actually played here", and it was pretty surreal.

And I don't believe in ghosts or anything, but the whole "mystique and aura" thing was a great part of the old stadium, and whether you believe in ghosts or not, it was hard to not get chills the first time you stepped out through one of the tunnels and caught a view of the field.

Anyway, it is what it is. I'm sure the new place will be given some slight tweaks over the years, and will have its own history, and people will get over it (especially when all the fans that knew the old place die, and everyone left alive never knew anything other than the new place).

One suggestion I have for their first tweak is to get rid of the Mohegan Sun sports bar. If they want to keep that huge obstruction in center field, at least turn that into the Yankees Museum, since a) it's bigger than the current museum in the stadium, b) it's in a more prominent location than the current museum, and c) you'd get a great view of the field while touring the museum, instead of just hanging out in what is essentially a giant concrete closet off to the side of one area of the stadium (where the museum is currently located).

I'll always miss the old upper deck, which was one giant wall of a crowd that felt like you were hanging over onto the field. When the place really got loud, the upper deck would actually bounce around. You felt like you were going to break the stadium, but it was great.

Man, the White Sox sure could've used Jake Peavey today! They gave up 20 runs to the Twins.

Weird weekend in baseball.

Yankees fans will be cheering for the Mets, and Mets fans will be cheering for the Yankees.

Why?

Because the Phillies are in town to play the Yankees, and the Mets have shipped off to Beantown for a series with the Red Sox.

I think the Yankees have a good chance to take the Phillies series, especially with how well they've been playing of late.

The Mets on the other hand.... well, I hope they don't get swept. Johan's going tonight against the return of Dice-K, which sounds promising... except Johan is 1-3 with a 6.00+ ERA at Fenway.
