It's about time they did. Dolphin Stadium doesn't transfer into a good baseball diamond imo.

I always hear the same excuses here in Florida in regards to our baseball teams. The Marlins have 2 World Series titles and almost every year they have an exciting young team. Their attendence still sucks. A new stadium isn't going to magically change that. I just don't think there is a solid fan base for a Florida MLB team.

22,401 tickets sold per home game isn't half bad.

21st out of 32 teams when you have the best record in baseball? The only saving grace the Rays have is the fact that they play so many home games against the Yankees and Red Sox, since their fans pack the stands.

The Marlins also have a decent team this year and rank 28th of 30 teams with <17K per game.

Not only that but even the above mentioned besides Matusz are sometimes inconsistent compared to the cream of the crop young talent in the league. Example: I haven't ever seeing Longoria ever vanish for weeks the way sometimes Markakis, Roberts, Wieters(he's really young though), and even Jones can too (although he's been hurt I can't believe his effort he gives with the amount of dummies around him).

But I had hoped Bergesen would be a major player this year he's sunk back into mediocrity, Guthrie should be a no pressure #4 or 5 on good team roster, instead here he's considered in the top 3 depending on who you ask.

So they've had some bad luck with the pen not stepping up, but even worse luck with ownership and BONEHEAD Trembley.

I think Kevin Millwood actually isn't too bad he just gets no help and had he been with the Yankees/Rays exc. might only have 1 loss.

I agree that the Marlins are a hopeless franchise. But you have to give the Rays some time. I mean they were one of the worst teams in the majors for such a long time it's only now that people are deciding to check them out. I think with some more time when summer rolls around you'll see a spike in Rays attendance, especially if they continue to play well.

The thing about is is just like the Marlins if that scouting team is intact and as good as theirs was, and you can just keep munching up talent, won't really matter. No way the Marlins win either Championship if they didn't have that elite scouting staff.

The small spike in summer attendence for the Rays is usually because they have music concerts after games.

That's completely false in regards to their 1997 championship. That team was chock full of guys they bought on the free agent market. There were very few key players on that Marlins team that came up through their famr system. Before that team even had time to celebrate that championship their sorry @ss owner sold off half the team and they were an amazingly pathetic 54-108 in 1998.

The 2003 championship however was indeed great scouting/building a winner from the ground up.

I often mix up the number of MLB teams (30) with the number of NFL teams (32).

From what I remember they only signed Bonilla, Fernandez, and Alou

Scouting too is more then just farm guys, bringing in the right free agents is part of that I would believe.

Thats what I meant by scouting because taking FA/Young guys nobody thought twice about and getting production is evident of skill.

Yes I did. I love seeing great talent, no matter what team the player is on, with the exception of alex rodriguez.

I'm a Dodger fan 100%, but I'll give props to a player who does something like that, no matter what team he's on. That's just nasty... a cg 1-hitter?! c'mon.

I'm just pulling your leg my friend. I personally can't stand that team though due to a bad experience at Candlestick when I was a little kid visiting San Fran. I was like 10 years old and they heckled me the whole time because I was wearing a Hershiser shirt. It's been hate ever since.
