Crappy quality, but it's all that's available on YouTube at the moment.

Sorry but I cannot view that at work. Can someone describe the fan reaction. I'm really surprised MLB didn't pull the ump for the day just to let things blow over.

They offered him the day off and he declined.

Joyce walked out of the tunnel visibly upset, as if he was crying before walking out. Galarraga came up and shook his hand and handed him the lineup, and Joyce had to wipe tears from his eyes. After standing there a bit looking over the lineups, he patted Galarraga on the shoulder, and Galarraga walked back to the dugout.

The crowd didn't sound boisterous, but it also didn't look very packed (probably due to the matinee game).

There didn't seem to be any booing at all for Joyce as he walked out, and the crowd was on its feet as Galarraga walked back to the dugout (though I think they all stood up as Joyce walked out/Galarraga walked out to meet him).

Thanks. Makes sense given how well Galarraga and Joyce handled the matter post-game. According to ESPN there were over 28,000 for today's game which isn't bad for a matinee. Probably an increase due to yesterday's controversy. Good to see Detroit win big today 12-6 which I'm sure kept the crowd content.

At this point it's old news, but here's the statement Selig put out earlier:

Quote:
As Jim Joyce said in his postgame comments, there is no dispute that last night's game should have ended differently. While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed. Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features. Before I announce any decisions, I will consult with all appropriate parties, including our two unions and the Special Committee for On-Field Matters, which consists of field managers, general managers, club owners and presidents.

Bud has been talking about this for the longest time and he still doesn't do anything about it! Just look at last year's postseason! I'm not surprise, the play wasn't overturn! It would of opened a can of worms because everyone would want play(s) from the past overturn!

Does anyone know when we will have a new commissioner?

Selig said in 2009 that he'll step down in 2012. However, in 2007 he said he's step down in 2009, so who knows if he'll actually leave. The owners would never force him out so he can leave when he wants.

In the 90 years since Kennesaw Mountain Landis began his iron-fisted rule over MLB there have been just 9 commissoners. That's a 10 year average. Don't hold your breath. MLB needs a cap of 5 years tops for commissioners if ya ask me. I'm sick of this "job for life" crap that the commissioners seem to have over the game.

Where do I sign up for a job where I make $10 mill a year with no accountability for my performance?

The problem is that Selig (ex-owner) views the commissioner's office as little more than a tool to make more money for the owners. Every decision and action during his tenure can be derived from that stance. He keeps saying he will leave, but the job is very cushy and requires little work for an enormous annual salary.

Funny thing is he never did a good job at that. The MLB player's union is the most powerful union in professional sports. All player contracts are pretty much ironclad and impossible for team owner's to get out of paying. I believe the majority of teams even lost money last year even though player's salaries have shot through the roof for a good two decades plus.

Baltimore Orioles manager Trembley has been fired. I never understand these moves by crap organizations. Joe Torre or Tony LaRussa could manage the Orioles and still they still wouldn't have a .400 record. It's the dimwits owning and running the team that result in last place teams.

Kinda sad I even have to call the Orioles a crap organization considering how good of a franchise they were historically. But that's what they've been since the late 90's.

Braves are up 4-0 over the Dodgers in the 7th. A 9 game winning streak is within sight.
