Tom Cheney is most notable for striking out the highest number of batters in a single MLB game. He did so on September 12, 1962, when as a Senator, he struck out 21 Baltimore Orioles in 16 innings en route to a 2-1 victory.

Kinda trick question.

Oh thought you meant in 9 innings. Looked it up and the record for a game longer than 9 innings is 21 for Tom Cheney. Sounds like the guy was a stiff too. He had just a 19-29 career record.

Pedro Martinez is a strange case. As great of a pitcher as he was he never threw a no hitter or struck out more than 17 in a single game.

Yea, like I said, it was kinda like a trick question, but very interesting non the less. Specially since it deals with the sorry Senators team from long ago.

And of course after that, his arm was wasted, and his career was pretty much over after that.

You must of being thinking of Dioner Navarro! He has 0 HRs and 5 RBIs on the season! He was batting .184 last week, but I just check and now he's batting .202, but he still sucks! (Talking about Navi) How he's still on the 25 man roster, just

The Rays currently have 3 catchers on the 25 man roster: John Jaso, Kelly Shoppach and Dioner Navarro! When Jason Bartlett comes back from the DL, Navi better GTFO and he better take Gabe Kapler with him!

Haha, according to wikipedia he threw 228 pitches in 16 innings that 21K game. That's exactly why I consider these sub 100 pitch counts to be BS.

The new Must-See in DC RT @Buster_ESPN: Strasburg first pitcher EVER to strike out as many as 14 in a zero-walk debut. Incredible.

Looks like Strasburg's second start is scheduled for Sunday at Cleveland. Bet the Indians owners are happy about that from an attendence point of view.

The Braves have a 3 game set against Washington at the end of the month. As a Braves fan I'm not quite as excited about a series against Washington as I used to be.

There is just a ridiculous number of very good starters in the NL East these days. Strasburg, Santana, Halladay, Hamels, Hudson, Hanson, Josh Johnson, etc.

Pirates take a loss to Stephen Strasburg tonight

Jeff Karstens was out performing the young phenom until the bottom of the 6th inning when he gave up back to back big flies to seal the deal

The Pirates take on the Nationals tomorrow, same place, same time

However, this time it is the Pirates turn to show off their young talent.

Brad Lincoln, Pittsburgh's #1 pitching prospect will get the game ball tomorrow. While he may not be as flashy as Strasburg, he has the stuff to perform just as well.

Big Pelf throws 9 innings of 1 run ball and Ike Davis hits a walkoff homer in the 11th , Mets win ! Man I wish they could get anything going on the road, they might be dangerous.

The most impressive stat for me about Strasburg was 0 BB! I'm interested to see how many people show up for tomorrow's game!

Very impressive win for my Rays tonight! 9-0 victory over the Jays! Carlos Pena had a great game with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs including a grand slam! Jeff Neimann with a CG, 2 hit shutout!

Tomorrow's Rays/Jays matchup: David Price (8-2) V Shaun Marcum (5-2) 7:10 first pitch!
