It might be a while before Strasburg faces a good team. If he pitches every 5th day, then his next 3 starts would be against the Indians, White Sox, and Royals. This means that in his first four starts, he will face the worst run scoring offense in the majors (Pirates), the 26th scoring offense (Indians), the 25th scoring offense (White Sox), and the 18th scoring offense (Royals). If he pitched ever 5th game instead of day he'd still face the Indians and White Sox but miss the Royals and instead face the Orioles, which are the 28th scoring offense.

Even so while it might inflate the numbers to play bad teams, I still think being able to give some runs up and regain composure and get back to what made you the #1 pick is as important as anything (granted he could fall apart next start and never recover who knows )

But look at Zack Greinke for example how clutch he was last year yet his still seemingly inability to compose himself (and lack of run support ) have messed with his ability to pitch.

You can have great stuff but without the composure and ability to execute it really won't make to much of a difference.

Crazy stat of 94 total pitches

34 were 98 or faster

16 were 98, 16 were 99 and 2 were 100

Another stat(s) :

After the home run in 39 pitches 30 were strikes only 2 in play.

In 135 years of baseball debuts, no pitcher had ever thrown as many as 14 strikes without walking a batter.

Strasburg's second start is scheduled to be Sunday at Cleveland. The Indians have the worst attendance in MLB so I'm interested to see how well tickets for that game sell. I'll bet they at least come close to a sellout.

Thats good for everyone if he does well, I mean even in the minors he was setting attendance records, but that could be attributed to those people rooting for their local team and getting to see a potential super star.

But that would be nice if it was like Rocky 4 where the russians started cheering for him

An Indians spokesman said the club had sold 4,000 tickets since last week, when it appeared Strasburg would face Cleveland in his second game. The Indians have sold another 1,000 tickets in the past 24 hours.

5,000 tickets in one week... Not bad

Default Nationals TV ratings up too

Quote:
The network said preliminary Nielsen ratings show the game earned a record high 7.1 household rating among more than 165,000 households in the Washington region. "For a Tuesday night in June against the Pirates, these ratings are simply stunning," MASN spokesman Todd Webster said.

The Nationals have struggled to draw television fans since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005. Games averaged a meager 8,000 households just two years ago -- the fewest by far for any team in the majors.

MASN says Nationals ratings are up 66 percent so far this year.

The network said its previous high ratings mark was set in 2007, when Barry Bonds broke Henry Aaron's career home run record against the Nationals.

I just had to throw in this part about Nationals tv ratings as it mentions Barry Bonds also

Yeah, Costas was getting a bit ridiculous last night. People who know baseball should know that Strasburg is going to look good early on, because pitchers always have an advantage over hitters, when they meet for the first time.

Yesterday was impressive, but if he can pitch like that in a few months, then it'll be even more impressive.

My friend had tickets to the game, and asked if I wanted to go. He lives in DC... I live a few hours away.

Haha... so true. I remember Livan Hernandez and Dontrelle Willis being almost unhittable at first. Didn't take the league long to figure out those guys.

I think willis had issues way more then people just figuring him out, if I recall correctly he was overweight and out of shape, and his stuff really suffered (not including the emotional issues in the reports that were coming out of detroit)

I didn't follow Livan enough to comment on that...

I don't ever remember seeing willis with stuff like what I saw last night. Which I thought enough of willis to get an auto of his ...

Which brings me to my next point ... I am debating on if I should spend 275 on a ball from topp's for stras, I've had such sh** luck with big star autos panning out lol

I did luck out and miss the roiders just before they got announced Clem and Arod.

What is this, an auction from something? If it's from Topps I assume it comes with a Letter of Authenticity? $275 really doesn't sound to bad if you like collecting that sort of thing.

True story, back when I was 12 I was at a baseball card convention and then minor leaguer Chipper Jones was signing stuff. For $5 I could have gotten a free baseball for him to sign and with a letter of authenticity. Even though I was a Braves fan I was very young and had barely heard of him. I passed on the opportunity. Ya, I regret that move.

Yeah its gotten more advanced now then just a certificate since thats what ebay sellers do now lmao print out their own... Everything I buy has been authenticated by MLB and has a number given out and stamped on (one reason why almost everything I have has cost a fortune lol)

But yeah I believe it comes with topps certificates/tamper proof stickers exc.

Just like with amazing tv/car deals same goes for autographs if its too good to be true it probably is.

I just hate spending 300+ on stuff only to see if he bombs it'll be like Prior and Wood where you can get their authentic autos for under 30 each lmao

Costas was driving me nuts. I eventually switched back to the Pirates broadcast which was delayed about 10 seconds. They talked about Strasburg's first at bat like it was one of the most important plays in Nationals history. The pitcher hit a ball and got out...seriously guys? Then Lastings Milledge came to the plate, and Costas called him McCutchen once or twice...even though McCutchen had struck out previously in the inning. Good Lord...I remember having similar problems when the Steelers would be on NFL Network last year, they must not put a lot of the budget towards solid commentary.

Anyways...the Pirates and the Nationals face off once again in DC tonight

It will be Lannon Vs. Lincoln

It is the Pirates #1 pitching prospect's major league debut, hopefully its a good one.

Lets go Bucs

Which is why nobody will be there

but seriously I'm psyched to see him pitch as well I really hope he can get back to the lights out clutch guy he was at UNC... Its such a shame he had to have TJS almost right away.

Hopefully he's past that.

That was a terrible draft year I was just giddy with excitement when he fell out of the top 3 and had hoped either him or kershaw would fall to the O's but neither did

Oh I have no doubt that nobody will be there

If you are going to get Tommy John Surgery, you might as well get it done before you even pitch in the majors so it doesn't bring your career to a hault. I don't think it will have an effect on his velocity/location.

I'm just hoping to see 6-7 IP, 2-3 ER, maybe around 4-7 hits? I would be very happy with that.
