That seems like a lottt of fastballs to me; I guess the movement makes it hard to hit, especially at 98-100mph?

I saw on SportsCenter today that ESPN conducted a poll among MLB players, to rank the best/worst umpires.

Jim Joyce, of the infamous imperfect game call, is considered the best umpire in the game, coming in at #1.

CB Bucknor was rated the worst, with Joe West right behind him as second worst.

I'll bet Joyce got more than a few sympathy votes. He's been known as a good ump from what I know of his record but by no means good enough to dominate the vote for best ump like he did in this poll. The poll was taken just after the "perfect game" call.

White Sox@Pirates in the bottom of the first right now, Brad Lincoln making his home debut. The Pirates need a win here tonight.

The rumor is that Chipper Jones is going to retire at the end of the season, because of how poor he has played. A shame his career is going to end this way, but he will be going to the Hall Of Fame.

Chipper has always been one of my favorite players. That being said I'm happy for him if he does make the decision to hang it up. I always have more respect for guys who retire when they feel they cannot play at a very high level than guys who just hang around. It was just unbearable watching Maddux hanging around far too long with a ballooning ERA and waistline.

It would be especially fitting if Chipper and Bobby Cox both retire at season's end. And ya, Chipper should be a first ballot HOF'er. His numbers justify it and he's never come up in any steriods probe to my knowledge.

Garett Anderson is another one who should retire. His numbers this year are beyond sad and is only tainting his great career.

Ken Griffey Jr as well, reminds me of an old quote, I'm probably butchering it. Old heroes never die, they just fade away.

He's on a very steep decline. He was actually fairly decent with Atlanta last year but he's absolutely sucked with LA this year. With a batting avg around .160 the Dodgers might have make the decision easier for him by releasing or sending him to the minors.

He finally retired this past month I believe. He should have never come back. His last game last year with his teammates carrying him off the field on their shoulders was a perfect send away. Now he's got that silly falling asleep in the clubhouse episode to follow him.

He's made the excuse of blaming his spot bench role as the reason why. I am praying they do get rid of him because we have a great young outfielder who could take his spot.

I always hate that excuse. So if I suck at a 20 hour per week job and complain to my boss do you think he'll bump me up to 40 hours per week?

Depends on the boss, I know if my boss cut my weekly hours, my attitude and work quality would both take a severe hit.

Yeah but no one "cut" his hours. These guys sign contracts knowing full well what their role is going to be. I personally think it's very selfish for guys like Anderson knowing how badly they are performing yet continue to hog a roster spot. Ultimately it's the teams responsibility, but perhaps they are giving these former superstars the opportunity to just step down instead of being released.

Well depending on how much he's getting paid, they may just be hoping he comes out of it and catches fire the last 2/3 of the season?

Garret Anderson is making just $550K this season. That is nowhere close to starter money. And I don't think he's going to hit his way out of this. He's 38 and has been on a steady decline for a good 5 years plus.
