Wow someone besides me gave the Twins props! Strasburg is 4-1 now? That's insane, makes me long for the days when we had rookie phenom pitchers and wonder how good Liriano would've been if it weren't for the Tommy John injury.

You're completely right but the Mets needed that win bad so I'm glad the bad call went in their favor.

Are the Mets a threat to do anything in October? They have a mediocre record as far as I can tell.

I just said it, the Mets aren't gonna make the playoffs because ATL/PHI are gonna make it a two-horse race and the NL wildcard is gonna be like St. Louis/Cincinnati or somebody on the Left Coast.

Phillies have a better lineup and better pitching than the Mets, and I honestly (as an Atlanta fan) can't figure out why Atlanta is doing so damn well. Bullpen is strong and pitchers are decent, hitters just seem to be timely/lucky.

And don't forget, the Phils and the Braves are #1/#2 in the majors for runs scored after the 7th inning and walk-off hits.

I hate the Braves, probably because of their history with my team but it sounds like they may actually be the best team in the league.

Probably not, that doesn't mean I'm going to give up on the playoffs. You gotta cheer for your team.

The Braves have as good as chance this year as they've had in like a decade. We haven't made it to the World Series in the 2000s.

And secondly, screw you because Minnesota won game 7 (in one of the most notable finishes ever no less). It is I who should hold the grudge.

I was three years old at the time, though, so I don't.

Wasn't that the game where Kirby Puckett was the difference? Leaping past the wall to steal a home run and scoring the decisive homer himself? I know that happened in one of the games of that World Series.

I'm not sure if that was G7, but G7 was Jack Morris pitching 10 shutout innings against... John Smoltz's(?) 9 scoreless innings, 1-0 the final.

Jack Morris is my hero then, well until I forget his name again.

Don't worry, just four years later Tom Glavine gained redemption for the Braves by pitching a one-hit, 1-0 G6 WS victory over a Cleveland team that won 113 games (adjusted to a 162-game season).

There was a brief time around 1999-2000 when the Braves had Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, and Millwood (a 20-game winner) in the lineup at the same time. One of the best lineups of all-time, that 91-00ish squad (Steve Avery being another key player back a few years).

EDIT: Wow, just read that Glavine+Smoltz+Maddux account for 7 of the 10 NL Cy Young Awards in the 1990s (though Maddux won one with the Cubbies )

Yet only one WS victory in the 90s for the Bravos. I often wonder what direction both franchises would've gone had they not puked up a 2-0 lead in the '96 Series.

I don't, the truth is it seemed to me like the Braves took too long to rebuild after their aging stars left, hence the last 15 years.

I don't know how much longer I can watch the Dodgers under the ownership of Frank McShit. It's so painful watching such a good young nucleus go down the shitter because that whorish family wont do anything for us to bolster our team. Dodger stadium has always near sell out crowds that support this team yet we get spat in the face because of that Hollywood star wanna be family's problems.

I seriously doubt the A's are drawing 40-50 thousand a night like the Dodgers do.

Nah, 10 years ago the Braves' owners started decreasing their payroll and selling off all the big stars, many of whom are homegrown, once they became too productive/expensive (Ryan Klesko, Andres Gallaraga, Mark Texiera, Javy Lopez, Jermaine Dye, Jeff Francoeur, Kevin Millwood, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, etc.). Amazing we kept winning division titles for so many years (through 2005) with such patchwork lineups and rotations.

We did hold on to Andruw Jones... for too long...

Andruw Jones IS Braves baseball so that doesn't surprise me at all.

Andruw was fat and slumping for like 3 years before we finally dealt him. Chipper is the allstar of this most recent generation of Braves.

Braves baseball has always been good pitching + patchwork lineups. Bobby Cox uses so many guys in the infield, and our lineup almost never looks the same two days in a row.

Actually, Bobby Cox is Braves baseball.

EDIT: I looked up Chipper Jones's career numbers. By the end of the season, he should hit 2500+ hits and 1500 RBIs (still a .300+ BA, up to 440 HRs).

The Cubs actually won a series against the Phillies over the weekend. The next 9 games could be huge because they have 6 games against the horrible Astros and 3 against the Cardinals so they have a chance to make up some ground if they play well. I would assume if they do poorly over the next week they will become big sellers at the deadline, with Derrek Lee likely waiving his no trade clause and getting traded to the Angels (which has been rumored for months) and Ted Lilly likely being traded as well. Virtually every player on the team is on the trading block with the exception of Marlon Byrd, Starlin Castro, and Ryan Dempster so the team could look very different after the deadline.
