Will the Yanks make some moves to sollidify their bullpen ? Since some of their key pitchers are on DL.

The Yanks won't get Soria (nor any team) for the simple reason that the Royals are going to want almost 5 quality prospects. Lilly was a bum here before. Why would you bring a bumb back?

Seeing them comeback didn't surprise me in the least. Blowing big games seems to be Broxton's specialty. And George Sherill. As soon as he was announced hoards of people got up and left, and well the rest is history.

It doesn't sound like the Astros are going to be able to trade Roy Oswalt because Oswalt is demanding that any team that trades for him pick up his $16 million option for 2012 or he won't waive his no-trade clause. It's odd that Oswalt demanded a trade in June but he's being incredibly picky about where he goes, as he doesn't want to go to an AL team and now this demand. There's no way a team agrees to pick up that option so he's likely going to be stuck with Houston.

He's no Cliff Lee and besides, no team really inquired about him. Not to mention the bunch of hard asses the Astro front office is to do deals with.

I think the Phillies would be pretty desperate to acquire someone such as him. They wanted Lee also, and Moyer was just sent to the DL with an injury.

I would like Girardi but I think his price would be too high and he may just be using the Cubs to try to get the Yankees to give him more money. I don't want Torre, I agree that he is not a long-term option. I think Sandberg would be a good hire. He has gained experience in the minors the last 4 years and is loved by the fans. Greg Maddux has been mentioned as a possibility but I can't see them hiring someone with no managerial experience. A name I've heard a lot is Pat Listach. He was with the Cubs minor league system from 2006-2008 and is currently the Nationals third base coach. One name not to count out is current Cubs TV announcer Bob Brenly. Brenly has a World Series title as Diamondbacks manager and is familiar with the team after watching every game for the last 6 years. There's some question if he'd want the job though, because he's making over $1 million per year with a stressless TV job. I'd be satisfied with Sandberg or Brenly.

I don't think Hendry should be back. The Cubs are stuck with too many poor contracts that were his doing and they haven't had enough success. It sounds like Ricketts is happy with him (at least publicly) and it appears he'll be back.

Mark Cuban has been approved by MLB to bid on the Rangers. An auction is set for August 4th on the team. This doesn't guarantee Cuban will bid. He would likely have to get his financing in place pretty quickly which could prove impossible. The creditors had tried to get the auction moved back to September 30 so prospective bidders could have more time to arrange financing but the bankruptcy judge struck that down. Nolan Ryan and attorney Chuck Greenberg appeared to have the team purchased last year but that deal was struck down by creditors and they will be part of the new bidding. It's possible if MLB doesn't like who wins the bidding they could seize the franchise.

A league actually owning one of the teams in it? Somehow that just strikes me as a very bad idea.

MLB owned the Expos for it's last 3 years in Montreal. If MLB seized the Rangers they eventually would sell the team to someone they want as an owner, which would likely be the Ryan-Greenberg group.

Brenly I think would be good but he hasn't managed in a while so I don't know how that would work out.

I was also listening to WSCR-AM The Score in Chicago and Hub Arkush (Sp?)(the longtime football guy in Chicago) made an interesting point about the Cubs needing Hendry right now because he is the only baseball man the Cubs have right now in the front office and with Crane Kenney and Ricketts not having the knowledge to make baseball decisions it may be in the best interest to hang on to Hendry.
