Although I think Nolan Ryan & co. can be great owners, I would still like to see Mark Cuban make a splash in MLB somewhere. He could be a breath of fresh air for the sport.

Depends on whether this group spends money. If they don't make a real effort to resign guys like Cliff Lee the team would have been far better served with an owner like Cuban ready to spend the money it takes to improve the Rangers.

True but right now they're in the middle of trying to reach the pennant race, which they won't do if they're worrying about which people control the rights to the team.

I'd love him in L.A. Not going to happen, but I still can hope to have an owner who wants to win. Unlike our shitty owner right now.

No, not yet. Most likely he's going to have to sell after all is said and done with the divorce. Look up the definition of gold digger and you'll see his wife's face. I've read that he's paying around 30 million dollars in interest alone on his loan for the Dodger organization. How MLB approved this joker, who has never been interested in winning and continues to deny Cuban is beyond me. So what if he has an erratic personality, so did Steinbrenner.

The Yankees were lucky a deal went through on the Rangers. I believe they were on the hook for another $21 mill or so for A-Rod if the Rangers bankruptcy proceedins went much further.

What fools owned the Rangers to begin with that caused the bankruptcy and sale? Sounds like they were even more incompetant than Dubya was when he ran the Rangers, if that's even possible.

If I were a Rangers fan, I would be thanking the baseball Gods that they seem to have a competent owner now if all goes through. As interesting as it would have been for Cuban to own a MLB team, very few love that franchise as much as Nolan Ryan and he will be a hell of a great owner.

I'm thinking Nolan Ryan is probably more the face of the ownership group rather than financial backer. I know Ryan is a household name and had a lot of endorsements as a player but considering the team went for over half a billion dollars he can't possibly have put up a large chunk of that.

In any case Ryan is a great guy to be the face of the organization. He's universally liked and respected. Even by Robin Ventura.

Actually, they wouldn't. Remember, A-Rod opted out of his contract back in 07 and signed a new one with the Yankees.

Hmm... I'll try to find some more info but I heard it mentioned both on TV and on the radio the other day that for some reason Texas owed A-Rod $21.5 mill and that the Yankees would have to pay it should the Rangers be financially (chapter 11) unable to.

Good to see Jurrjens back and pitching well. We need him for the stretch run. Unfortunately the Phillies keep winning too.

The players are trying for the first time in months because they know they are fighting for future playing time under the new manager. Many players simply quit on the Orioles this year.

Helps that nobody was ready for the O's to actually try, at least we got our series with them before they came back to life. Expecting Liriano to improve to 11-7 against Cleveland's Gomez tomorrow.

I read that somewhere as well... They also still own money to players who haven't played baseball in years... Don't even know how that is possible...

EDIT: Here's one of the articles... LINK It appears to be more of an unsecured loan owed to him and not part of his contract...
