Hmm... Boston is only 5 back of NY and 4.5 back of Tampa? Weird, I was thinking it was 7 or 8. Guess they do still have a shot at the playoffs, even if only a small chance. With all those injuries I still can't see them getting in.

That's a question the Red Sox are at least willing to consider. With Mike Lowell already installed at first base to take the place of Kevin Youkilis, who underwent season-ending thumb surgery Friday, the Sox took a look at Carlos Delgado, the former Mets and Blue Jays star who like Lowell had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

Delgado, who has a home in nearby Greenwich, Conn., had contacted the Sox after Youkilis' thumb surgery, sent videos to the Sox of the rehab he has been doing and invited them to send a scout, according to an industry source. The Sox responded by asking, as long as we're in the neighborhood this weekend, why don't you come down to the stadium for a workout?

I can't believe the way the Phillies have come roaring back in the second half of the season. I was really hoping the Braves would take that division to knock down the egos of the Philly fans. At this point the Phillies could win that division by seven or eight games, they are red hot and Atlanta is having a lot of problems. It's a damn shame.

Vasquez and Burnett are both pitching this series, so I don't see how that's possible... I see a 2-2 split or Red Sox take it 3-1...

I know, Atlanta is losing players and blowing games all over the place.

The Phillies are playing an easier schedule than Atlanta right now, though. I think for the remainder of the season, Atlanta may have a slightly easier schedule.

The Phillies have played without two or three starting all star players every game this season at various positions, thank goodness they have such an outstanding farm system or they would have serious set backs and prolly be in a hole that could not be climbed out of. I agree that we might get the easier schedule this second half but Atlanta had that easy ride through the first half hence their ride to the top, now at one game back, and playing the Mets, whom which always play the Phils well, but this Met Team looks downright in disarray, I don't know if the manager(Mets) makes it till the final game. I think the Phillies move into first before the weekend is over, bring back some star players and they should stay there, oh one more thing we should really send JC Romero down, he is hapless as well, what happened to him.

Why is it a surprise? The Phillies have always had a ton of talent on the team but suffered a constant stream of injuries. As a Braves fan I always expected them to recover and get on a roll. We have a favorable schedule left. Even if the Phillies take the division I feel we have a decent shot at the Wild Card.

It's more disappointment than surprise, they have a very talented group of core players. On the flip side, Philadelphia in general has the most obnoxious sports fans known to mankind. It's pure hell living right in the middle of Phillies country when they are winning. (Especially when you are a Jays fan, they aren't afraid to rub salt in your wounds)
