It was funny how in the 7th the Yankees had bases loaded with no outs, next 3 batters all struck out, then Teixeira comes up in the 8th and hits a lead off solo HR... Glad he didn't get up in the 7th...

What ever happened to that A-Rod dude they used to be able to depend on? I imagine he was one of the three guys who struck out with the bases loaded.

How weird is it that Mussina joined the Yankees in 2001 and retired in 2008 considering the Yankees won World Series in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009? It's like they stopped winning World Series when he joined the team and started winning again the minute he retired. Of course it's just a coincidence. Mussina was a fine pitcher. Really was ashame he never won a ring. I always liked the guy even if I didn't like the Yankees. He might have been able to make the Hall of Fame if he stuck around for 300.

Yeah, I kind of feel bad for him. It took until his final season to win 20 games in a season, but he was always a decent pitcher, with a couple off-years mixed in. And it's kind of a bummer the way the World Series' worked out.

It reminds me of Donnie Baseball.

The Yankees lost the 1981 World Series, and were in 4 of the last 5 at that point. Mattingly joined in 1982, but the Yankees missed the playoffs that season, and didn't make it again until 1995, which was his final season. After Mattingly retires, the Yankees win 4 of the next 5 World Series, including 1996.

The Orioles are 6-1 under Buck Showalter, sweeping the Angels and taking 3 of 4 against the White Sox. They also just did something they hadn't done all year, win on a Monday, as they had been 0-8.

Then there are guys like Bonds who suffer heartbreak after heartbreak in the postseason much to everyone's amusement and delight. My favorite was Sid Bream outrunning Bonds's poor throw.

I live in an area where only the White Sox and Cubs are regularly on TV. Just got DirecTV, the Twins' game tonight will be on one of the channels I get.
