Well there is one baseball legend that won't be retiring next year and that is good ol' Vin Scully. Finally a good piece of news amidst a depressing Dodger season.

A 5-2 loss is that disappointing? 63-62 is okay, not the best record though.

Since when is a .500 record considered okay? Especially from a team that won their division the past two years? Don't know why you brought up today's loss though as I didn't mention it, but yes today's game featured another meltdown from our supposed All Star closer.

A record over .500 is good, especially considering how tough your schedule is and how many injuries you have. Stopped watching our game for awhile to watch a couple shows, about halfway through it now.

A .500 record can only be considered good as long as that team is making improvements from the previous year. If the Pirates get a .500 record next year I would say that its "good". Say the T-Wolves get to .500 next year, hell to even a .300 record, I would consider it good. It's not good if the team has won their division for the past two years with practically the same team falls to 4th place. And injuries are just a part of the game. Look at what Boston has been able to accomplish with their even longer list of injuries.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Pirates clinched their 18th straight losing season, the most straight in North American pro sports history. Here's a somewhat sad story that shows how the Pirates have consistently made money thanks to the MLB's revenue sharing while keeping salaries low. People can criticize the Yankees spending all they want (and I criticize it a lot) but at least they are spending their money on players while also making huge contributions to MLB revenue sharing while teams like the Pirates whine about being small market and unable to compete for players but then we get stories like this that show they aren't spending money on players.

1-1 with a playoff ERA of 5.27 and a World Series ERA of 7.00 is lights out?

Yeah, he didn't have any decisions in the division or ALCS, and went 1-1 in the World Series. He had a good start in the division, going 6 innings with 1 earned but had a no decision, then had a good start in the ALCS, going 6 innings with 2 earned but a no decision, and then a poor start, going 6 innings with 6 earned but another no decision. Both his World Series starts resulted in decisions, winning game 2 with a 7 inning, 1 earned performance, then getting shelled in game 5 with a 2 inning, 6 earned performance. So he had 3 good starts but 2 very poor starts that hurt his stats.

Expecting Blackburn to get toasted by the Rangers tonight and then Liriano and Duensing to win the next two against them.

Don't get me wrong. For a #4 starter he's not that bad. The Yankees have Sabathia, Pettitte and Hughes at #1-3 which is very solid. I doubt Burnett gets many starts in the playoffs anyway.

Cannot access them at work but I did hear on the radio today that in 2008 through 2009 the Pittsburgh Pirates made a PROFIT of about $30 mill, thanks to bottom of the barrel payroll and receiving luxury tax money. They also mentioned the Pirates current payroll is almost identical to what it was nearly two decades ago in 1992. Sounds just like the way Donald Sterling runs the Clippers.

AJ Burnett will probably play sporadically unless Pettite's age/health issues catch up with him, yes.

The Deadspin links are not a story, they are pictures of the Pirates, Mariners, Marlins, Rays, and Angels financial statements, and can't be copy and pasted because it's around 100 screen shots.

The Red Sox have claimed Johnny Damon off waivers. The Red Sox and Tigers now have 48 hours to work out a trade, although Damon has a no-trade clause and could block a return to Boston. It's not known if the Red Sox actually want Damon or were trying to block another team from getting him. It may be a moot point because Damon said he is not inclined to go back to Boston.
