Lincecum's velocity and command have been in marked decline this year compared to his Cy Young campaigns. His top fastball is down at least 3 MPH and he occasionally loses the strike zone now. I hope it is just a temporary stretch, but it has gone on now for several months.

Chapman just pitched another inning of relief. He had another 1, 2, 3 inning, struck out two and had two pitches clocked at 104 mph. 104!!!

I still have a hard time believing the Reds are blowing out St. Louis in the Central Division. I really thought the Cards would win that division by a mile this season.

Wow this Nyjer Morgan guy has some serious mental issues. His latest act today resulted in a bench brawl....where he proceeded to get his ass kicked! I imagine he's going to get a huge suspension, especially after his little celebration afterwards.

Man who knew a Marlins-Nats game could be so exciting late in the season? An exciting high scoring game and an awesome bench-clearing brawl. Props to Gaby Sanchez for that well executed running punch/closeline to backup his pitcher!

LOL... from Nyjer Morgan's wikipedia page. Now it makes sense. Apparently he thinks the rules of hockey are acceptable in MLB.

That was great! The MLB Tonight guys cracked me up with their reaction after they saw that flying attack on Morgan.

I believe Morgan absolutely barreling over the Marlins catcher resulting in a shoulder separation is what started this. Especially since that catcher gave him home plate to slide.

On replays of Nyjer running through the FLA catcher, it certainly looks like a rough hit, but given the situation (extra innings, trying to score when the shortstop had the ball at 2nd), he probably knew it'd be a close play, and never considered sliding.

Only because the Marlins catcher got injured do we all look back on it now as seeming like a dirty play.

In any case, if the Marlins wanted to plunk him the next night to retaliate, fine.

But now the Marlins are apparently playing by their own set of rules, and Morgan apparently breaks the rule that says if the Marlins are beating you by more than 10 runs you should just give up.

The Marlins throw at him again for stealing a few bases?

Really?

I can understand if it's the 8th or 9th inning, and the game is almost certainly over... but it's the 4th inning, and they're the Marlins. The game was far from over.

I don't condone any of the other stuff Nyjer did (throwing a ball at fans, slamming his glove on the field earlier in the season, etc), but I think the Marlins are as guilty as he is in this whole debacle.

Technically you're right. But he wasn't stealing those two bases to try and get back in the game though. He was doing it to show up the other team. And everyone in both dugouts knew it.

Nyjer is already appealing a 7 game suspension for throwing a ball into the stands in Philly and hitting someone with it... This guy is a f***ing joke and needs to sit it out for the rest of the season...

And for once I actually agree with toef... The Marlins already hit him for taking out their catcher (which wasn't a dirty hit but more boneheaded) so there was no need to throw behind him a second time...

Also the previous hit on I think it was the Cardinals catcher was clearly a bad hit... The ball was not even being thrown to home plate, and catcher stepped back off the plate, and he went so far out of his was to plow into the catcher that he didn't even touch the plate... I think he was ejected from that game as a result...

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Justin Morneau (concussion) won't work out at Target Field until Friday.
Gardenhire cited doctors' orders as the reason for his absence. It's hard to call this a setback, as we've yet to hear much positive news regarding his condition. Whatever fantasy owners get from Morneau in September should be considered a bonus at this point.
