Just wondering, is Morneau going to be ready for the Playoffs or is his season a write off?
No idea he's been out with a concussion since July, not sure what's taking him so long to get over it. Was supposed to be back in a week and right now his status is just up in the air.

But he should be ready for the playoffs....right? Unlike last year where Mauer was flying solo for Twins in the post season.

This year we have Thome, Cuddyer, Kubel, Young and Valencia who are all hitting well. Heck Hudson and Span are hitting okay too, which will make it hard for a team without a deep pitching staff to go 3-4 games with us in the post-season.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the Twins take down the over paid Yankees.

GO Twins!!

Right now I think the Yankees just need to worry about the red hot Rays taking their division, I think they're too old to win consistently on the road in November.

I guess either way the National League has home field advantage for the World Series after they won the All Star game.

Should be interesting.

I find it odd that the NL won that game considering the AL seems to have the best teams in baseball right now, honestly I think the WS is the AL's to lose this year.

The Phillies have had a mess of injuries this year (Rollins, Utley,Victorino, Howard, Polanco) and still they scraped there way up the division.

So if the Phills can stay healthy for the post season and build momentum they could be tough to beat. Their starting pitching is really strong with Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt plus they have one of the most potent offenses with Howard, Rollins and Utley. In my mind there the best team in the NL.

I'm predicting they'll beat the Twins in the World Series.

We need someone besides Pavano and Liriano to become consistent, might've been Scott Baker who has been hard to beat but he got hurt again so who knows. Duensing's been good but he's only recently a starter so he may not be able to handle the pressure of starting in the pennant race.

"The Twins are going to win the World Series! The Twins have won it! It's a base hit, it's a one-nothing, ten-inning victory!"
—Jack Buck, calling Gene Larkin's World Series-clinching base hit in Game 7.

Just a little blast from the past the last time the Twins won the World Series in 1991 over the Braves in 7 games.

Man I still remember the players back then; Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, Gene Larkin, Terry Pendleton, Jack Morris.

ESPN had a World Series 100th Aniversary countdown and picked the 1991 World Series between the Twins and the Braves as the best of alltime.
Five of its games were decided by a single run, four games decided in the final at-bat and three games going into extra innings.

Epic!!

I was 11 when that happened so I don't really remember it, hope stuff like that eventually makes its way to blu-ray. Will say the day Puckett went almost blind in one eye made me very sad.

It's not really odd at all. Single games don't tell you who the better team is (or league in this case). If they do then the Orioles are the better team because they beat the Yankees today.

Orioles have beaten the Yankees two times in a row now, including beating their 2010 Cy Young winner(should be) CC Sabitha.

Yeah I had to do a double take when I saw that.

Bergesen has an outside shot to beat Nova, which would be hilarious considering how bad Baltimore is on the road and how good the Yankees are at home, not to mention it would complete a 3-0 sweep.

Actually as weird as it is to say the Orioles have been playing some good ball for the past month or so. They're 20-13 since Showalter became manager in early August.
Showalter has always had good creditionals as a manager as he built the Yankees, Rangers, and Diamond Backs into winners.

Instead of rolling over and dying like they tended to do in previous seasons, Showalter has brought a measure of stability to an instable organization and has this team competing like they're in a pennant race.

Interesting to see how the Orioles fare next season with a fresh start to work with.

NOTE: Showalter's contract is good through the 2013 season

I don't think it'll last without an infusion of new talent in the off-season though, especially since Showalter's overall record is so poor. 20-13 is decent but considering they started that run like 6-0, it's really 14-13 which is mediocre. The Twins' 34-12 run is far more impressive, I think. Yes I know we have the much better roster, not sure where we keep finding contributors every time someone gets hurt.

They may turn out to be like the Rays, bottom feeders for several years then built up their roster with strong prospects and now are contenders.

Although I agree the Orioles are a number of years away from being taking seriously, reaching .500 in the AL East would be a more realistic goal for the future.
