Brief article here
Wow, we lose another member of the Yankee family Freddy is a huge part of the stadium just like Bob Shepperd, us(the bleacher creatures), and monument park. He will be sorely missed. I hope Freddy is up in heaven with his pan and spoon letting the people up there hit it.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, the Yankees do to acknowledge him prior to tomorrow's game.

I was just at the stadium a couple weeks ago during the Boston series, and saw him there, so it's not like he'd been sick for a while and stopped going to games.

Maybe they can put his pan in the Yankee museum.

Believe me, they'll have a moment of silence for him before the game. I do like the idea of putting his pan/spoon/signs in the Yankees museum. He's as much a part of Yankee Stadium as anything else.

Also, Joe makes many stupid moves that make no sense. Many Yankee fans would love to see him go.
+1..... but i dont want him to go if we cant get someone good in place of him... not too fond of the idea of having Pena as a manager...

i think he has not debunked the idea as a means of leverage to negotiate his next contract with the Yanks...

Its a sad day...i remember going to a game last year and it was his birthday and i gave the pan a bang....would always see him walkin around having people bang it and its going to be weird not seeing him at the stadium anymore...

Pena is a good manager (remember, he won manager of the year when he was the Royals skipper), not to mention that he's very good with the spanish players and the catchers. I was glad he decided to stay on as bench coach when he didn't get the Yanks skipper position. I barely saw Freddy at the stadium since he doesn't come around to the bleachers. He will be sorely missed though and I can basically guarantee that the Yankees will give him a moment of silence before the game (not too sure if TBS will show it though.

Donnie wasn't ready at the time and I still don't think he's ready yet (and I'm a huge Mattingly fan).

It's interesting, from what I've read Donnie already had the job locked up with the Dodgers while Torre was still managing. I guess there was some pre-arranged deal.

The team never promised Donnie the job. I have feeling it's more that Donnie felt he was a shoe in for the job.
