Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Cubs have named Mike Quade as their next manager.
Quade will get a two-year deal with an option for 2013. The 53-year-old former third base coach led the Cubs to an impressive 24-13 run down the stretch this season and won over support from many of Chicago's players. It's not yet clear if Ryne Sandberg will have a role on Quade's staff or whether he will remain in his post as manager with Triple-A Iowa. Yup no matter what there probably won't be a lot of people watching the World Series this year, if ratings for the MLB post-season are any indication.

I'm still smiling at how a small tier NFL Monday night game soundly defeated the Yankees/Rangers game last night. I don't think there is any question which sport is king in America. Having said that, I wish sports wouldn't schedule big games on the same night like the did last night, it makes the remote control get a work out!

Had the game finished 2-0, I think a lot of people (myself included) would feel bad for Pettitte, and wish he could've had that 1 pitch to Hamilton back.

I still feel bad for Pettitte. I really think that was one of the gutsiest postseason performances of his career. He kept the Yankees in the game all by himself.

It would probably rival that Angels-Giants series from 2002 as far as crap ratings go. And that was a solid 7 game series. Still, Giants-Rangers is the series I'd prefer to see.

I think a Yankees/Phillies rematch is one of the most boring match-ups. It might be the Yankee-bias in me, but I think they're the biggest draw, so the combinations (ranked in order of ratings) would probably be like this:

Yankees/Giants
Yankees/Phillies
Rangers/Phillies
Rangers/Giants

I know it doesn't make mathematical sense (if you assign each team a value, my rankings defy logic), but I don't think it's a simple formula of adding one team and the other. The match-up created is significant.

In any case, I'm surprised how many Giants fans exist, especially outside of SF. There are plenty of Giant fans in NY, maybe because they think the Yankees are evil, and the Mets are too terrible to follow.

I think it's tough to compare them, because the nature of the NFL schedule leads to huge ratings. In a typical week of the NFL season, you have, at most, 16 games. In MLB you have, generally, about 90. Of course, last night it was a 1:1 ratio of games, but a non-deciding game in an MLB playoff series isn't really a huge draw, outside of the people who just like the two teams. Better comparisons would be made between MLB/NBA/NHL ratings.

I don't think anybody would argue that football isn't the more entertaining sport to watch, regardless of the teams involved. I just wonder what would happen if people were flooded with too much football to watch, and whether it would still have the same appeal.

It's probably because the Giants came from New York before they moved out to San Francisco in '57. Yeah it was over 60 years ago, but a lot of kids grow up liking the teams that their parents/grandparents like(d).
