Wow... I'm still shocked the Phillies are getting punked like this. For me it's a bigger surprise than Texas leading NY 3 games to 2.

Two awesome Championship Series so far.
Halladay vs. Lincecum II should be awesome tomorrow night, looking forward to it.

I'm a Jays fan, so I don't really care who wins the WS, but kinda rooting on Halladay to get a ring, he's totally awesome...watched him in his first start take a perfect game into the 8th against Detroit ruined only by Felipe Crespo's error before letting off a solo jack in the 9th to Bobby Higginson. Complete Game took 104 pitches, 1h40m. Amazing.

I think we're about to get a San Francisco-Texas World Series and personally I'd rather watch pre-season football than watch those two teams slug it out for a trophy.

Honestly, the Giants and Rangers could play an epic 7 game World Series and it would probably still receive terrible ratings. I believe that Angels-Giants series in 2002 had one of the lowest TV ratings for a World Series in history and it was a very good 7 game series.

If it's Rangers-Giants I'm not sure who to root for. The Giants winning would be amusing and a punch to the gut of Barry Bonds. Imagine if they finally win a Series just after he retired. If the Rangers win the Series it'll make Josh Hamilton's comeback among the most impressive comebacks in sports history.

Don't worry. The Rangers are my team...which means, they'll give up completely the 3-1 series lead and I'll be crying into my pillow all through the World Series.

If that's the case, I'd root for the Giants, because I like to think of baseball as a team game. The Giants would show they're just fine without Bonds, and it'd also make him sad that they won so soon after retiring (though not quite as sad as Mattingly must feel).

Josh Hamilton's comeback is already pretty impressive, and even though he played a large part in Texas' success, I don't imagine he can single-handedly win them the World Series.

Last time the Rangers had an MVP, they also lost 91 games. So a great year by one player can only get a team so far.

You can throw Mussina in there as well.

I have to root for the Giants in the NL. As cool as it would be to see Halladay get a World Series ring, that nasty Philly fan-base ruins it for me.

So after I've been pummeled all season long for being a fan of the 'lowly' Blue Jays, the Phillies fans around here tell me I'm not allowed to talk to them about baseball anymore because my team didn't make the playoffs. Apparently they are already throwing in the towel, that's some loyal fans. With that three headed monster they have, they are not out of it yet. If I were the Giants, it would behoove me to finish it tonight. That Phillies team is way too talented, knock their teeth out while you have them down!

Giants are a buzz saw right now, they caught fire at exactly the right time, much like the 2004 Red Sox did, I don't think the Phillies can beat them and I have doubts the Rangers can do it either since other than Cliff Lee their pitching staff really doesn't match up with the Giants.

Haha, that's true, but his isn't quite as bad.

1981 - Yankees lose to the Dodgers in the World Series
1982 - Mattingly joins the team
1982-1994 - The Yankees fail to even make the playoffs; the longest World Series draught in Yankees' history*
1995 - The Yankees make the playoffs, win the first 2 games of the ALDS against the Mariners, then lose the next 3
1995 (later) - Mattingly retires
1996 - Yankees win the World Series

He waited 14 seasons to get a taste of post-season baseball, and then retires after their embarrassing failure to clinch the ALDS.

*The way I selectively worded things:
-the organization itself started in 1901, as the Baltimore Orioles
-they moved to NYC in 1903, changed their name to the Highlanders
-they changed their name to the Yankees in 1913
-four years after signing Ruth, the Yankees win their first World Series, in 1923

So it took them 23 seasons as an organization to make their first World Series appearance, but only 11 as the Yankees

Yeah, it's interesting that the Yankees won the World Series in 2000, Mussina was with the team from 2001-2008 with no World Series titles, and then after he retired they immediately won the World Series. Mussina did get to play in 2 World Series though.

What makes it even worse for Mattingly is that the year they finally got it together and had the best record in the league ('94), they had the strike which cancelled the playoffs and World Series.

I don't know what's worse though... Is it Mattingly who spent an entire career without making the playoffs until his final year, only to have his heart ripped out in the first round? Or is it Mussina who was probably on the most favored team to win it all in just about every year he was with the Yankees, and never got to the promised land?

Don Mattingly is one of the best players ever, Mike Mussina isn't fit to even shine his shoes.
