this probably would of been the best case senarios for ratings. over any other matchup... but too bad the Yanks are already out ... Either way your team will be right back in the thick of things next year.. sign a couple high priced free agents and bam... isnt that what the Yanks do

Josh Hamilton has been named MVP of the ALCS.
Hamilton reached base in all four plate appearances Friday, once by single and three times by intentional walk. He batted .350 with four homers in the series and is headed to the World Series, which is quite an accomplishment given where he's come from personally. He might add an AL MVP award, as well.

Roy Halladay (groin) has told manager Charlie Manuel that he'll be good to pitch if the Phillies advance to the World Series.
Doc suffered a groin injury in the second inning of Game 5 but still went six innings. "Oh yeah, he made it clear to me [he could pitch]," Manuel said. "He said, on his regular time, he said he'll be ready to go." GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. described Halladay's groin injury as a "mild to moderate strain," but there was no way he would consider missing a start in the World Series. Oct. 23 - 12:46 pm et

Not surprising he won LCS MVP he had a great series. Had we won, Cano would have gotten LCS MVP (he's the only one who showed up for us this series).

We're a better team than the Twins (and we showed it) and the Rangers (we didn't show it and they just threw their uniforms, gloves, bats and spikes out on the field except for Cano since he was the only one who showed up in this series).

The G-Men are going to win the World Series, their pitching staff is superior to Texas' aside from Cliff Lee. Don't really care anyway, not going to watch it. I wonder how sfmarine feels.

I feel like your grumpiness gives Yankee fans a bad name. As soon as the Yankees were down by 2 runs, you'd pretty much given up on the game, and when the lead doubled to 4, you were certain it was over.

Lightning can strike twice (see: 2001 World Series, Games 4 and 5), but maybe not in Arlington.

I know it will probably come off as sounding spoiled, but you have to understand that it's not the same for Yankees fans when their team loses. We (I'll include myself) have gotten so used to their success that anything short of a World Series title often does feel like a failure of a season. If I was a Rangers fan and they lost the series to the Yankees, I think I would be disappointed but still see this as a good season for them.

Assign letter grades to accomplishments. An A is winning the World Series. A B is making the playoffs. A C is not making the playoffs at all.

Getting a B is great if you're a C student most of the time. But for an A student, it's a crappy feeling.

Sure, you can step back and try to objectively look at it, and determine it was a decent season for the team, but right now the easier thing to notice is they have nothing to really show for the season: no World Series trophy, no AL Pennant, and not even an AL East Pennant.

This is my kind of Yankee fan. Texas simply outplayed the Yankees, and there's not much more to it than that.

For a team that averaged over 5 runs a game, the Yankee offense really crapped the bed this series. They average, what, exactly 3 runs per game, which might win you a bunch of games in the NL, but it won't work against an AL team (especially an offensive one, like Texas).

And almost a third of those runs came in 1 inning in Game 1. Take away that inning, and their offense was pretty atrocious.

Swisher and A-Rod batted .091 and .190 in the series, respectively. And let's not forget Teixeira who finished the series with a batting average of.... .000.

So as crappy as the Yankee starting pitching was, the offense wasn't exactly giving them much to win with anyway.

Girardi could have brought in CC to at least give them a slight chance of revival but he just sat there in horror and let the game get even worse. I'm sick of him, but he'll be in Tampa in 6 short months starting it all over again. Oh well...baseball is done for me. At least I can focus completely on Football and the Giants. This sucks...Yankee fans are going to be ticked for quite some time.
As frustrating as some of Girardi's decisions were, both in the regular season (Jeter a leadoff hitter? Really?; coasting into the playoffs by losing 2/3 of their games in September) and the post-season (the ordering of his rotation; the intentional walk calls; leaving starting pitchers in too long; etc) I'm not really sure what other option there is.

With his contract ending, the Yankees could easily pick up a new manager, but Cashman has said that Girardi is "definitely" coming back, so I imagine they won't.

Translation: YOU don't want to see the Yanks or Phils in the world series.

Anyone who knows anything would admit that a Yankees/Phillies World Series would probably get the highest ratings, followed by a Yankees/Giants series. Hate the Yankees all you want, but they have a huge following, and it's spread across the entire country.

There's some talk about how everyone loves a Cinderella (read: the Rangers) but the ratings don't bear that out. The whole David and Goliath thing only works when there's a Goliath in the matchup, and that's a role that, in baseball, I think only the Yankees can play.

Sure, the Phillies are a great team, with recent success, but I don't think there are many people out there that will tune in wanting to see the Phillies lose.

Honestly MLB ratings suck regardless of who plays anymore. Ratings between 2000-2009 ranged from 8.4 to 15.8. Between 1975-1985 they ranged from 22.9 to 32.8. Care to guess which World Series are the lowest rated in history? 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. Yep, the last five years are ALL the lowest ever recorded. And last year it was Yankees-Phillies, two very large market teams. Didn't matter, ratings still sucked.

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/ws/wstv.shtml

People by and large just don't care about baseball like they used to pre-1990's. Football has become the overwhelmingly dominant American sport.

No offense Toef, but people just aren't watching MLB like they used to regardless of whose playing. See my earlier post. They don't care if it's the Yankees or Rangers in the World Series. Look at the years where the Yankees made the World Series recently versus the years they didn't. There's very little difference in ratings.

With the Yankees in the WS (since 1996) - Avg Rating is 14.3
Without Yankees in the WS (since 1996) - Avg Rating is 12.2

True, but I never argued a Yankees World Series would have gangbuster numbers compared to a non-Yankee one, just that it'd be higher. And your evidence seems to support that.

Also, I'd argue that the "Without Yankees in the WS" number is a little skewed, because of the Red Sox World Series in '04, which was huge (given the history, and that Boston probably has the 2nd biggest fanbase).

Since 1996, World Series with:

Yankees or Red Sox: 24.93 million, average
neither NY or BOS: 18.13 million, average

That's a +38% bump when you add either the Yankees or Red Sox into the World Series.

Of course, you could argue that the Yankee numbers carry more weight over from the 90s, when ratings were higher, but it still holds to this day, given the most recent numbers. The ratings for the 2009 World Series were up 38% from 2008 (11.7, up from an 8.4). Was it just a coincidence, or was it because the Yankees were involved in '09 and not '08?

There was a time in the late 80's when the Kansas City Royals had the highest payroll in MLB. No, I'm not kidding.

And contrary to popular belief the Yankees payroll wasn't "always outrageously high." It's only been far above the other teams since around 2002. And oddly enough that was about the time they stopped winning championships.
