BJ Ryan asked for and was granted his release from the Cubs. He felt his velocity wasn't where it needed to be and didn't see it improving this season. Luckily the Cubs weren't expecting much from Ryan and got John Grabow as another lefty reliever.

Wow, poor Ryan. I mean, he was likely on PED with the Jays but he was so damn good for us.

yeah hopefully he shows up for the game tonight the 4 games I've seen him pitch he can't execute the breakers at all. Hanging them not having his slider slide. And against a good hitting team that can be bad bad BAD news.

I'm not a Red Sox fan, but I think most of the fans would agree that John Smoltz needs to go. He has just been awful all year. Lefties are hitting .447 off him. He had a great career, but I really wish he had retired as a Brave last year.

He's done. I never cared for him either from all the stories I heard where he was acting like a D*** to people who just tried to talk to him. I'd say they'll give him 1 more shot.

Yup, I think most of us Sox fans were in agreement on that a couple starts ago. Give it up Theo, this was one of your few failed experiments...

He does have a decent first & second inning, they should have tried using him pitching relief from the bullpen.

A's released Jason Giambi. Ever since the steroid testing started his career has gone downhill fast. I doubt anyone will pick him up since he was hitting under .200.

Possible interesting situation in Toronto. The Blue Jays put highly paid outfielder Alex Rios on waivers, and someone has placed a claim on him. This means Toronto could trade him to that team, keep him, or let the team that put a claim on him to take him for nothing. It's not impossible that the Blue Jays might let Rios go for nothing and save themselves the $60 million remaining on the contract he signed in 2008. It is currently unknown who claimed Rios.

I heard the Yanks got a pitcher from Padres this week for future consideration. Anyone would know who it is ?

Yeah I think his ego is way to big to move to the pen. But you are right he can do 1 or 2 good to decent innings.
