So the Yankees will be taking a stab at Cliff Lee tomorrow, wonder how many zeros will be involved with those negotiations.

It would be beyond hilarious if the Yankees gave him double AJ Burnett money and he helped them get to the World Series and then blew it against the Giants again. Well not to Cliff Lee of course but to those of us who hate the Yankees.

I think it depends on how much New York offers him, if they offer him slam dunk money he's going to be a Yankee. Cliff Lee hasn't been hiding his desire for a massive contract.

I think taxes often get overlooked. Right now New York's highest state income tax bracket is nearly 9% compared to zero for Texas.

That is true, but for some reason I just think the amount of money the Yankees are going to offer him will be such a large sum that Texas won't be able to think about coming close to. Besdies, who would want to live in Texas?

As MovieFan mentioned, I think the Yankees can make up for the difference.

And as I mentioned somewhere in this thread (and fatediesel, I think, corrected me a bit) he'll still have to pay a jock-tax in quite a few different places, so it's not really a 9% vs 0% comparison. It's more like a 4.5% vs 0% comparison (because of half of his home games being in NY, instead of Texas). I don't know the exact breakdown of jock-tax states in terms of MLB teams, but it could vary a bit (if the Rangers play more games in jock-tax states than the Yankees, or vice versa. They're both AL teams, but division and inter-league schedules vary).

This guy has clearly become a huge fan favorite & would be great to see him on SNL...

He may have whooped our asses, well, not him in particular but he had a hand in it, but he just seems to be so comfortable in front of the camera and has a quirky comedic attitude to him. I think he'd be great.

I've been hearing a lot lately about how Cashman and the Steinbrenners are trying to be smarter with their money. I mean, if this were a few years ago, there'd be no discussion about "Jeter or Rivera". They'd give them both what they want. But now? Obviously, things have changed, even for the evil empire.

Brian Wilson needs to write a book. That would be awesome.

Ya, I've heard that. So does that mean MLB players have to file tax returns in roughly 20'ish states? Seems like they'd need a legion of accountants.

I don't see it happening. Athletes don't host SNL often and the ones who do are usually massive stars. Wilson just isn't a big enough name. In all honesty the only baseball players I believe are famous enough to host SNL are A Rod, Jeter, and maybe Pujols. I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson is on Weekend Update next week but not actually hosting.

You're probably right about him not being famous enough, sadly. In fact, the only athlete who was even a decent actor on SNL was Peyton Manning. Tom Brady and LeBron were just too stiff. Peyton's was one of the best SNL's of that season. He should do it again.

Although I hate Manning I'll admit he was decent on SNL. Jeter was also pretty good, the Derek Jeter's Taco Hole sketch was really funny. I don't know if it's possible to top Michael Phelps for worst host though.

Honestly, I watch a ton of TV but I've not watched SNL in almost a decade. It got old for me back when I was about 20.

"Joe Morgan and Jon Miller will not return as announcers on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball."

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...tnerId=rss_mlb

All I can say is THANK YOU! Milller is ok, but Morgan is the worst broadcaster in the history of broadcasters.

Default AL Gold Glove winners...

P - Mark Buehrle
C - Joe Mauer
1B - Mark Teixeira
2B - Robinson Cano
3B - Evan Longoria
SS - Derek Jeter
OF - Ichiro Suzuki
OF - Carl Crawford
OF - Franklin Gutierrez

It should be noted that Ichiro tied the OF record of 10 Gold Gloves, which is also held by Ken Griffey Jr. and Al Kaline.

If Mark Ellis played more games, he may have deserved it over Cano.
Jeter gets another award he doesn't deserve. Probably should have gone to Alexei Ramirez. OF is pretty good, but Gardner may have deserved it over Gutierrez.

As a Red Sox Fan, I enjoyed watching Beltre at third, but he made too many errors this season. Pedroia and Youkilis were both injured for a large portion of the season, so awards for them wouldn't have been appropriate.
